It's always torture trying to uncover a mystery- particularly if the answer just lies around the corner. In fact we're due a good challenge to test our detective capabilities after the Gucci Vump saga turned out to be the world's worst kept secret. Ohh Brodi you're a sneaky one. Well to be quite frank, I'm far too impatient to be waiting around for answers. Fuck January 2010, why wait over a month when one of you cruel buggers can let slip to me now. Ahem. So who are Monarchy people? We know they're a duo right? Could one of them be the ever so slick Starsmith? Or possibly one of the Late of the Pier boys (Samuel Dust?) working on one of those said individual projects? What a tease eh?
The young duo Dem Slackers have just finished off their latest remix. We blogged about them back in May when they sent us their Mightyfools remix of Amsterdam, shit got big then. No long after that their Joker EP got released on Wearhouse Music with some even bigger remixes. Drawing resemblances to the likes of Congorock, Raffertie and A1 Bassline you would expect wobbles from the next track.
Has anyone seen the previews for Yeasayer's "Ambling Alp" video yet? Let me explain. First of all- everybody is naked. Yes you read right, they're all starkers. Not even a leaf. Okay so after the initial shock of the nudity we're greeted by some LSD driven illusions of these people running about on a desert. Absolutely no idea where but it looks like it's killing their feet. They're still naked at this point, so it's not pretty when they're busy power-walking through the dust. Hmm. But it ends with everybody sleeping on silver sheets. Are they all oiled up for a massive orgy? It looks quite likely. Although, aside from all this enigma, the song is actually pretty damn good. Perhaps not quite as thrilling as the blatant cult sexathon on show, but twinned with the Memory Tapes remix, I think the single has enough hoohaa to kick that eerie mojo of yours into action. Yikes.
This is for everybody awake at half past seven on a Sunday morning who fit under the following adjectives: tired, hungry, achey and grumpy. Sat there depleted with a cup of coffee barely able to listen to the news. Ask yourself why you're in such a state? Is it... because of work? You were disturbed? You're just one of those crazy people who get up at ohh good lord the birds aren't even awake yet o' clock. If that's the case then you suck. Big time. If it's because you've had one hell of a Saturday night then high fives all round tits magees- this In Flagranti remix was made for you. It's a cheeky little pick me up to keep you going until you hit the sack. Works better than caffeine. Scientifically proven.
Looks likes Pabs wants a battle? Well let start off with that song being well old now, but Funkism isn't always about new music it also about what has been missed. But to fight this battle I'm going to open up my Jon Curtis tool box. His debut production is Driven, has a hard go chasing sound throughout. The more it goes on the stronger it gets as if it has found confidence.
Can I really do two post in the same week on the same artist? Of course I can when there is other party involved, this time I have Diplo as an excuse. The Devils Eye remix is running alongside Bacardi B - Live Events that happen around the world each year. We have the likes of A-Trak, MSTRKRFT and Para One involved in this years events in over 25 different countries, serious biz. Diplo is also involved in the B- Live proceedings with Major Lazer, working along side Drop The Lime, it was only a matter of time before Diplo asked if he could put his own gritty shaker on the track. Devil's Eyes is the latest single.Thing is though, this is a live mix and really shows the brilliance of Diplo. You are able grab the Major Lazer sounds within the remix which are pasted between the Luca Venezia vocals. Head over to our blog bros Stoney Roads for some more remixes of the track. To show their support and joy for the release, xlr8.com are running a contest to get Drop the Lime to to in your hood, check it.

'Well good god damn and other such phrases, I haven't heard a beat like this in ages' with rolling drums through out and a starting beat that wants you to break out your best tango, the Decibel brothers from another mother have really got their priorities in order and spent extra time in the studio. The original Wardance track by Foamo has been smashing clubs since the early summer, with the EP featuring remixes by Hijack, Hostage, Disco of Doom and P.O.W. The Decibel remix gets rid of the drowning drum beat and rips it open with twist of electronic zaps and jabs. Just as heavy as the other previous remixes but for its own different reason, making the 'What It's Good For' remix more original with a rumble in the jungle feel.
Normally before a remix hit the blogs it is sent to the original artists, just to gather their own thoughts and things, standard really. Not with this one, apparently there was a massive brawl between Decibel and Drop The Lime. Of course DTL won with his big guns, which results in him taking this remix and playing it on his Kiss FM show last week. But now we have it, another exclusive on the interwebz.
All the singles ladies, all the single ladies! Hit up the Decibel duo on their myspace.

Despite all this cannibal talk and the fact that these kids will eat your flesh when they run out of candy (check that ginger afro dude on the top right who looks like he'll fight to eat your eyes as the delicacy)
There are two budding names running London at the moment, James Connolly and Alex Sushon with their Night Slugs crown ruling the capital. The latter you'll know better as Bok Bok, a super nice chap with heart for some underground energy. Before you tag his name under UK Funky (hate that phrase) say wooooah hold your horses- because the end product brings together numerous backgrounds and sources for straight up fire. Here's his remix of T&B's Little Jinder which ultimately typifies everything that's good about this scene. And I'm not just talking about the girl whispering 'be my lover'. Check it.
Lets keep this blog train going! So far this week I have given you some funk, some twisted electro and some deep as a cave indie. I've now got some new dubstep in my ears ready to share with you lot, but I can't tell you the face behind the mask of Milady just yet. What I can tell you is that Milady is a young lady yet to hit her prime and has moved away from her comfort zone of bassline rhythms to produce her own view of what dubstep should be.With a lot of Flat Eric samplings, the Milady dubstep edit was always going to be compared to Mr. Oizo and his yellow friends classic. But Milady pulls it off with lots of breakdowns and loops. Seeing that Flat Beat is produced by a person who normally makes electro/ fidget music I am very surprise how excellent the track has come out and could be be a permanent move?
An existence that still hasn't last a year, Lost Knives are one of the busiest bands in Manchester. Though the band haven't been around for too long, their sound as a band has matured vast amounts, making them sound serious and meaning business. They've got rid of the bad and improved everything good as you can see with their new tracks, defining drum beats and two vocalists in a track giving each song lots of different layers. I have blogged about them before (HERE)but since they have changed their name due to legal reason, that's now in the past and the future is all theirs. So far they have played festivals, supported bands such as Two Door Cinema Club and had their own Maida Vale session. Their new record Static could be their break through song. Full of seriousness and shuttered guitars, weaved through a kick drum rhythm. With lyrical content that allows you to make up your own story.
With the Droplet EP about to drop (ho ho ho) at the end of the year let the hype of NTOTB start all over again. We were sent over two of their mixes of Drop The Lime's, "Set Me Free" single. Both remixes set off with different vibes making them thoroughly versatile and friendly. The 'Carnival Mix' is fun and bouncy but the NROTB boys haven't forgotten about their roots and keep it all a bit twisted.
Jo Kira, always a favorite. Shamefully I haven't heard much from her, mainly down to the bases of me not having a laptop since August. But money has been spent and I'm catching up with all music. As a present of our friendship, me having no new music and that she missed me, Jo Kira set up us up with her new edit of Thomas Bangalter (one of half Daft Punk durrrh) funky swinging Spinal Scratch. Taking you to that feeling of a USA 70s styled cafe where people are dancing to Motown classics swingers style. Then you find that image on a youtube video where someone has made a remix, cutting up that swinging music? This is the track. It just needed a rework by Jo Kira.
At approximately 23:00 hours we will be reaching for our balaclavas and infiltrating the Moda Music headquarters. We figured there must be some kind of reasonable explanation behind the consistent quality turned out with each release, and yep you guessed it, they're giving out special water to their signed acts. So that leaves us with only one option: to steal the secret formula. If that all goes well we may just be able to kick start phase three of Operation "Moon Flash" aka taking over the world. Excited? Please do, we'll corrupt our planet into something hells more fun. We'll make Fenech Soler number one in the charts (if you buy on iTunes we can actually make that happen in advance) but if we get ratted out remember it wasn't us. Shhh. And we'll blame it on some crackpots okay? Deal.
So we can probably think of four reasons to love Plastiscines right? Alchimie, Loser, Mister Driver and Pop In Pop Out yeah? Ah hah good grieffery I got you. Well lets amalgamate all them reasons into something I like to call FUN. Because their stylish new wave pop songs make you want to grab the nearest person for a good old fashioned song and dance. Whether that be in your bedroom or at your early morning train stop, it doesn't really matter, just as long as you both end up rolling around on the floor afterwards. Isn't it them moments we live for?
It was probably a lot warmer and the grass greener when I last wrote about The Twelves. The affable touch that comes with the Brazilian outfit doesn't quite tie in with the contradicting miserableness brought in by November's first attempt. Still when you're imagining back to the days when you were seven, riding your bike up, riding your bike down; it creates a glowing nostalgia capable of a smile to brighten up any frosty day. The Twelves take a different approach to many of their remixing counterparts since this is bursting with disco all the way to the heart. Highly uplifting and addictive.
It's pretty much safe to say that Malia and the UK's brainless bass junky DJs spoiled a large part of Crookers for us. Particularly for myself. But there IS light at the end of the tunnel with Phra and Bot keeping their heads firmly on some tech house shoulders. I won't lie, I have little expectations for their debut album, but rather I'm more focused on the few shiny moments we can still get. Take their track with Solo for instance? Some part of me aches at the thought of this not being released on anything other than a computer game. Or how about their collaboration with Soulwax? Well we shall see I guess but I sure hope they prove all us doubters wrong. There's always a place for party music.
