I’ve always said, you always need a break between the baseline and disco. Just turn to our Funkism Top 50 album of 2008, we had Fleet Foxes, Ra Ra Riot and Mystery Jets in our top 10 albums of the year. A change is always good between the beeps and the basslines.
If there was ever a cool list that featured all the best bits of 2009, then Sound Pellegrino would most definitely be on it. They're so on point right now that the releases they put out are unbelievably sexy. That's what I'm talking about. It all started with more bounce than ounce, Harvard Bass, and it's his complete disregard for noise control that really gets our juices going. His Acid Girls remix, oh my, I've never heard of something so fucking scary as that before. Here we are with two more remixes of Drop The Lime and Australia's Beni. Go crazy.
Amongst the top 10 things I'm eagerly anticipating for next year is the sophomore Midnight Juggernauts album. I was a huge fan of their debut and by judging on their latest single "This New Technology", I think we're really in for a treat. Here are two remixes that have been kindly given away- one by The Juan Maclean and my favourite from Memory Tapes, who incidentally produced a fine album of his own called "Seek Magic". Definitely go check that one out, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
So only five weeks into the University year and I'm already saturated in work- hence the recent slacking. Although today I've grabbed myself a cheeky little hour where I'm going to play catchup to make up for those sad days/weeks without music. First up is this Style Of Eye remix of last year's 2am bomb i.e. Fake Blood "Mars". I like it because, Boy 8-Bit's cover aside, the dirty Swede tries to do something different compared to the original. There is a second "Edit To Debit" remix but this one is pretty much the same, except shorter. It's still good though.Last week saw our very first blog wars at Cosmic in Newcastle. There were boobies, lots of red bull and vodka and that girl Katie that came into the DJ booth z'waaah. The only two sad things came form the night:
1. I didn't get to say 69er on the video
2. 400+ sad people got turned away because the placed was jammmmed.
There will certainly be another one but will you be there too?
Very big thanks to Rub a Dub Dub for sorting this all out and to Louis Louis who made me sit in the middle seat heading to and from Newcastle, you darling. Also one more very big shout out to Mugshots and everyone else who made it such a crazy night.

Tuesday 20th October, its going to be a big crazy night which will see Funkism and Louis Louis heading up to Newcastle to take on Rub A Dub Dub in their own club. Should we get more badges made? Some tees made? Do we have time? Will have enough petrol money?
Kitsune Maison 8 has already been through the pipeline. The tracklist is set in stone, all tracks have been recorded and I can tell you're all excited. Remember how great the last one was! I’m glad too see we are getting more Two Door Cinema Club for our money.
If you've been on point all summer you would have been loving the sick beats coming out of London from the likes of L-vis 1990 and Bok Bok. These guys are setting fire to anything they touch. This new remix from Sinden follows in very much the same vein. It's of an American producer called Jack Splash who gained a Grammy Award for his work on Jennifer Hudson's self-titled album. He's got a new album coming out called "Technology and Love Might Save Us All" in early 2010 and well I'm not sure what it's going to end up like, though I can imagine it'll feature a lot of big artists I don't care for, but what I do know is I'm hyped for any Sinden remix. Fire.
So I've been meaning to post about this guy Joy Orbison for what seems to be forever and ever and ever and ever, but thanks to Strictly Social, we have a rip of the mix he did for Mary Anne Hobbs. It's just under twenty minutes with quite a few unheard of tracks and it showcases why we're all falling in love with his carefully crafted sound. It looks like Peter O' Grady will have his hands full of silverware come the end of the year, not only does he have the best alias I've ever heard, but his release "Hyph Mngo" on Hot Flush is just plain fucking brilliant. Note that Mary says that J Dilla is one of his main influences, that alone makes me wet.
It's the start of the weekend and you've all probably just finished your dinner, prepping the shower and already pouring a drink? Yes? Well don't press play on your iTunes just yet because we've a load of posts for you tonight including this bad boy of a track by Alex Metric from his "Head Straight" EP. We've been big fans of Metters since he showed us the way two years ago with his Infadels remix, ohh lordy, that was good. Well here he is again, straight up electric heat. Be sure to check out his Fenech Soler remix of "Lies" when it comes out, it's getting huge support.
If I wasn't busy for every hour the Gods send, I would have drawn up an October chart a long time ago. Well if you close your eyes and imagine a Brodinski Ustream broadcast, you're pretty much on the money. One of the tracks that stood out to me like a Gucci THUMP was "Fairycide" by R.I.V.E.R. and it's pretty damn crazy. Probably too wild even for Bear Grylls to stick his fangs into, but it's there if you want to take it. Jeez, speaking of big big big tracks, L-vis 1990's Compass EP is out tomorrow on Sound Pellegrino. Check this beast of a package out, one ticket to Zahonda please.

We don't often get screams here much in the Funkism house, apart from when I think somebody has touched my secret sweetie stash. If somebody steals those blackcurrant fruit pastels and leaves me the disgusting yellow ones, there will be hell. But intimidation aside, we're often caught causing mischief to the sound of Oliver Jones. Here's a new remix from the Bromley lad, as dirty as ever.
Whilst trawling through North Hykeham's one and only record store, sorting out a pile of 12" in ascending order from hot disco nymphs at the front to hairy chested Euro producers at the back, I eavesdropped on an intriguing conversation. Apparently I hear there's going to be a party between FUNKISM, Louis Louis and Rub A Dub Dub in a couple of weeks? Hosted by Decibel's very own Jay? I don't exactly know how big Mount Everest actually is, but I'm assuming this night is going to be somewhere up there on huuugeness. I got a text off Marky saying he's already ordered some Buckfast, Brandy and, errrm, let's say it's safer to leave this one to the imagination. In the meantime, here's a pretty damn excellent remix from the duo. It's like the soundtrack of a time when you were all trapped on a desert island being hunted down by lesbian trolls, but escaped via a few bits of wood and a extremely long shoelace. And then laughing about the whole ordeal on the way home. True story.
