Please forgive me for being totally away with the fairies these past two weeks, it was something that couldn't be helped, but for now (or at least I hope) things will be back to normal. So yes, this is in some way a catch up post and admittedly this would've probably been best served during the hype of the release, but here it is, the Savage Skulls remix of Miike Snow. All I know is that they're from Sweden, both Discobelle and Big Stereo have been rocking this track, and it is pretty damn BIG. And in case you're wondering? You can set dogs off barking with this remix. But you'll be keeping people up playing this out loud anyway, right? Hope so.
Looking at the watch, 15:09pm, it's become apparent to us that we're crying out for an electronic pop whizz-kid. We don't want to leave, pack our suitcase or hop out the door. We just want to dance the fucking night away. We can dream right? And bury our heads in these joyous melodies? The Indiana Jones of great new pop music, Neon Gold Records, have shed light on New York City's Penguin Prison, an exciting new producer with lots of potential. We still rock his Marina & The Diamonds remix, and start fights with his Gold Silvers rework, so I was hella excited to receive this Penguin track. Considering we're wishing for the day to turn into night, this Jakwob mix is pushing each and every one of our buttons. I don't care if it's too early to open a tipple but we're wasting time dancing around a box then falling over. And we're LOVING it.
Somewhere amongst the stars, cruising the unexplored regions of our galaxy, is a handsome chap flying the Moda spaceship and making music. When he's not shooting down UFOs with lasers, Tom Staar is in Area 51 working on a debut album, and rumour has it that his cosmic beats are being used to communicate with alien ravers on Jupiter. Yea apparently the Tom Cruise project didn't go quite as well as planned so it's been left to our Tom to reach out to life outside of Earth. His latest EP shows us why he's the right man for the task, with it being as big as space itself and as destructive as a black hole. It's getting huge radio and DJ support so I suggest you check this guy out, but for now, here's a taster album track and an EP minimix. Get your space heads on and lets all have a party in Tom Staar's rocket ship! Don't press the red button!
I understand it is the 15th and we are a few days late with this but hey ho.
It was written in the stars that I'd eventually succumb to the pressure of the blogosphere and write about everybody's favourite new band, The XX. In fact as a result of the craft and vision from Astronomer, Alex from Skulljuice, here we are now. The eerie solace that arrives from their debut album makes it inevitable that they'll be a difficult act to remix, but somehow, Alex Egan has reworked the original formula into a sleeping demon that snores out a hypnotic option all over the dancefloor. It's also worth checking out these other two remixes for Metronomy and Micachu. One, because they're aces. And two, you won't want me to come over there and bitch slap you into another Kanye West rant. Scared yea?
You may have noticed the lack of haunting going on in the Funkism house these past few days. Perhaps the ghosts are on holiday, nightlights put into every dark corner and Derek Acorah safely tucked away behind bars for crimes involving horrifically bad TV programs. Or maybe we've just not been in. Well I certainly haven't anyway, but I'm back today, with a few new gems. The first lot being some dynamite remixes from Fenech Soler and Vega for the anonymous Mimo. If you thought pre-headless Marie Antoinette's hair was big, then you haven't quite heard these yet. Kind of electrifying, in a fuck-yes-is-this-disco way.
Just in case you're bored out of your tree, with only spider solitaire and a cup of coffee keeping you company, here's something that will knock you sideways into an interesting world full of bass. Your nervous system malfunctions, bones begin to obtain attributes only found in liquids and you're gracefully lifted into the air by vibrating particles twirling around into angel-like personal dock. If bass is your drug, then Sharkslayer must be your dealer. Furreal. Although I'd be worried if that isn't the case because then it's more than likely you've scored some second rate homemade shit. Bad times.
You could probably tell from previous rants on Twitter than I was less than pleased with the sophomore Simian Mobile Disco album. Yes there were a couple of dynamite tracks I admit but, as much as it pains me to say this, hell there were some duff ones too. In fact I was most aggrieved by the transformation of "Synthesise" from a quality demo to a less than personal album version. Although I won't dwell on this disappointment because I'm sure they'll come back stronger, but it brings me to this handy remix by a duo called The Lowbrows. I'll put my hands up and say I didn't really know much about them apart from that exceptional Flight Facilities remix on Bang Gang 12s, but Chaki got in touch today to send us over two new tracks to put your Saturday into the fifth gear. Check them out.At Funkism we do our best to keep up with music and not focus on the same genre of too much. Keeping it fresh, we can't listen to bangers all the time so in between we like to listen to come disco, the sound of cars driving by the house and a bit of indie also. General Fiasco have been a big influence on my music since they first got started, currently selling out small venues and gathering monster crowds at festivals everyone this year the young 3 piece band from Ireland are starting to be heard. There next single "We Are The Foolish" is out 2th of October through Infectious Records.
Lend your ears to something different :)
P.S. might be lack of updating on my side as my laptop has died on me. Might be a while until I get a new one, unless we be a leech like ohhh crap where he asked for all your monies :)
