the first time i heard the shoes remix of marina & the diamonds, i was in my friends car three weeks ago on a tuesday at 21:09, driving along the bypass during sunset. i remember the time and date because we both looked at each other and thought let's not talk for the next four minutes. somehow the moment came through consequence as jess had misplaced her cds during some kind of spring clean and we were left to chance the radio. fortunately an enthusiastic huw stephens popped up for 'in new music we trust' and played a cheeky surprise. in a show that mainly focuses on talent throughout the alternative and indie scene, getting to hear a remix from the reims outfit was highly unexpected. they certainly do put out a lot of remixes, are they becoming the next van she tech? in fact i think that's already happened. all a good thing of course because i'm still a sucker for some french shuffling magic and combined with the glowing charm of marina, we were always onto a winner. make sure you look out for her "crown jewels" EP out soon on neon gold records that features a track called "seventeen" which is aces. if this is the first time you'll be hearing this track, make sure it's with friends and silly dancing.
it's been many a time when i've been lucky enough to make it to the moda after party and earlier this month saw urchins come down and tear things up. i can't stress how good these guys are as djs since they certainly know how to execute the wobbles and keep the place bouncing all through their set. the UK's representatives for palmsout have been working their little cotton socks off as of late and have finally penned a date for their debut EP for june 23rd. the words potty mouth should be enough alone to whet your appetite but how about some news of original tracks with djedjotronic collaborator spoek? check to check millionaire oh snap? and bass favourite foamo? you've got all of this to look forward to as well as a summer mixtape project which launches next week with foamo and sidechains. here's their rework of an old skool 90s rave track which has been going down huuuuge in the clubs.
what do you get when you mix jack daniels and coke? barbecues and sunshine? jessica alba and stockings? goodness. it's because you're doing it right. so when we get diplo and switch together, well it should end up in one big drunken mess, but it equates to something out of this world right? in fact literally, we have this commando geezer with lazers for arms fighting in a secret war against zombies. to be honest this has to be something dave came up with whilst pramfaced, all the sober minutes in the world would struggle to come up with that suggestion. anyway what results from this unusual concophany of ideas is one of my favourite acts and albums of this year. it breaks the rules and bends the boundaries which for me sticks them heads above the rest. so today i've got you a just as imaginative remix of "hold the line" by canadian ravers NROTB. remember when i posted about their excellent N.A.S.A remix and original "miam miam"? well you can expect much more of this bouncy club style that will have you on your feet all night. goodness.B could be for badass, maybe bold or perhaps just plain old brute. although in this case it's for baseball bat. hmmm you say? it's hervé's new song that out's on his label, cheap thrills, on june 1st. it features marina who used to be in the band bonde do role and it's a daring choice. the single will though see a track by joshua called "who da champ" and a remix by high rankin where you can grab a minimix of his latest EP here.

A Volcanic Eruption:
AudioFun, one man and one woman. Original hailing from Derry, Northern Ireland (see you at the Gritty Shaker tomorrow night folks), they have now moved to Manchester.
i've been a massive punks jump up fan since i saw them at a party nearly two christmases ago. usually their tracks feature some kind of addictive female vocals but this time around they're utilising the voices of miike snow. perhaps the first time you heard the band was from the crookers remix, they're everywhere innit. or maybe the treasure fingers mix? either way i'm glad that the guys from london have had a go at reworking the song because unfortunately they don't seem to produce enough. i think the last original they made "beep beep" came out many moons ago and featured on the bang gang deejays' "light sound dance" white disc mix? well i can tell you anyway that they've remixed the likes of the gossip, remi nicole and robyn and just like before, they've created something that forces you into repeat listens. there's an intriguing panache that skips along through the whole five minutes. if you've not heard about punks jump up yet, then where have you been these last three years! don't worry though, there's plenty of time to catch up.
last night i had an ipod battle with my friend amy at a party and it was close. her lineup consisted of 80kidz, cut copy and prince whereas i went for a 1983 HBO theme/sferro mashup, djedjotronic's remix of major lazer and ended with lovelock. despite amy showing flesh for cheers, the victory rightfully went to...her. raspberry beret is such a shrewd choice and it's a hell of a sight to see a bunch of merry people unashamedly singing along to the chorus. so now i'm awake the morning after still smiting that loss but you know, there were lots of great tracks played and i want to continue on that trend. for many moons now i've been a massive fan of broke one and i guess you've often seen me post about him. in fact there's not much else i can say apart from that unlike his italian counterparts, crookers... bloody beetroots... congorock, this guy produces music in quite the opposite fashion of a disco house vein. you may not have heard about the french band coal stairs but that doesn't matter because this remix is perfect. a bold statement, but i'm not afraid to make it.
one of my favourite nights in sheffield for over two years now is club pony where i've managed to meet the likes of felix cartal, brodinski, bobmo and boy 8-bit. i'll tell you now that felix told me in january 2008 that he was working on an EP with the idea of releasing a debut album afterwards. it's currently may 2009 and felix, i think you've been telling me LIES all this time! only joking, i know you've been busy with hot girls innit. in fact i've watched the place grow in popularity by moving to a bigger venue and attracting heavyweights such as duke dumont to come down and party. the residents of club pony are run hide survive and i have to say they're very talented djs. they'll pretty much have the perfect set for you whatever the place, whatever the time. bit by bit they're showcasing their remixing skills and this time around they taking their sound to a hotly tipped band called boy crisis. the track struts along with blithe unconcern creating a paradox of a remix suited for both the day and the night. it's a testament to their talent to be able to create this kind of versatility and i really do have to urge you to get behind these guys. more songs please run hide survive even though i know you bloody work your socks off!
this morning while i was awake at stupid o' clock to keep my friend company at the gym, i managed to catch ten minutes of this tv programme called blood, sweat and takeaways. ohh how i'm glad that i don't really like seafood because otherwise i'd be feeling guilty. one days wages bought these girls some bread and a bit of jam. in fact they gave their change of one pound to their indonesian friend who they stayed with and she cried her eyes out because money is so precious over there. moreso because that small sum allowed her to make a surprise trip to see her three children because she is too poor to look after them all in one house. so when you buy your tuna again, remember where it came from. i don't mean to be 'heavy' (see what i did there) but it was kind of a reminder not to take things for granted. anyway here's the heavyfeet remix to add to the coinoperatedboy one marky posted. the boys from manchester who've had releases on the tragic magic and potty mouth labels again produce the sort of music that will cause you trouble on the dancefloor. watch out!
while i'm waiting for the summer to officially announce it's arrival, i've been listening to old disco classics. such songs as, one of my italo favourites, kasso's 1984 hit "dancing on the beach" have been making me get even more excited about what i've got to look forward to over the next four months. even more excited for aeroplane's dj set in june. to continue with the theme, here's something special from a young australian producer called james kane. we were one of the first to post about the young lad and since then he's continued to grow from strength to strength. his latest tracks are showcasing the sound made famous by the likes of fred falke and kris menace which is perfect for such an occasion don't you think? he may be young but he's still old enough for your loving. go crazy.
It is a shame I do not know much about this Flak Attack character. Hailing from Bristol and people describing his music as fidget. That is about as far as it goes on my information on the dude. Though I do know, he does not really understand why people see his music as begin fidgety and to be honest I can see where he is coming from.
well i have to say i've just had an amazing last few days. can't believe i'm getting old! friday saw foamo come down to play some huuuge tracks. it's nice to see yet another sound guy in the scene. he gave me free beers from the mini-fridge underneath the decks, how awesome is that. then on my birthday we we're in belgium for the mad decent party. boy 8-bit played lots of new tracks including what i swear was new fake blood and of course, diplo was amazing as usual. pon de floor, wow! so now i'm back and sadly i can't make ac slater tonight. gutted. but, i guess i just can't complain. to continue the wobbles, here's some from bass weazal. boom!
What’s that sound? I like that sound. I love that sound. It’s the sound of...screw it. That track has landed and now we are looking forward to new stuff. It is time to breakout the summer mixtapes for the BBQ parties!
How great is Facebook for getting noticed? Make a fan page, add everyone and watch it grow.
Exams are done, my summer begins and it has rained every day since boo. I plan to be posting lots more as well and do something productive rather than going through DVDs I’ve watched many times over. Today I have been nursing my hangover from Foamo last night (major partying going on last night) with some Podge and Rodge, which has left me smiling and upbeat!
it was at 2:51 in the afternoon on sunday, 17th august 2008 when i first posted about NROTB. remember how i said if your bedroom didn't turn bright blue, green, pink and orange then you're doing something wrong? how you'd have to practice pulling shapes? well nearly nine months on, things have really taken off for the duo. in april we saw the release of their first EP called "take me upp" where they got the likes of designer drugs and dro & lodzy to appear on the package and we always preferred their remix of vitaminsforyou over the jokers of the scene version. now ed and pat have given me an exclusive of their latest effort called "miam miam" and i can safely say it's next level shit. download it, play it, share it. there's something about this track that forces you to BOUNCE, no matter how hard you try not to. if you're in public, like on the train or bus, beware because as soon as it hits the minute mark, be prepared to have lots of people staring at you! they also sent in their N.A.S.A. remix which is equally as addictive. in fact the label loved it so much they signed it up for release. massive news!
it's pretty miserable here in sheffield and i really don't like it how the rain leaves me in an unproductive mood. it's a shame really because this excellent passion pit cover by the brighton based band, the mummers, is something that would go down special whilst preparing for exams on a sultry evening. i have to say that the passion pit album was a bundle of fun which transported you to michael angelakos and the group's dreams where people ride unicorns to work and eat yesterday's clouds for dessert. well the mummers, whose album is due out on 8th june, use their orchestral pop to draw passion pit's dream into something much more manageable to break down. it's fresh, tranquil and certainly a great adaptation of the original.
today we're getting more treats from your-army. smiley faces! i've never been much of a gaming person to be honest so i've no idea what bionic commando is about. perhaps it was a little before my time anyway, i just remember how much i loved my 16-bit sega megadrive and the three games i had. streets of rage, sonic the hedgehog and fifa 95. i wish i still had it so one day i could relive the memories. ahh well, for those of you in the similar dilemma with bionic commando, don't fret, because capcom are releasing it once again for the newest consoles. like i say i don't know much about the game, but what i do know is that they have commissioned three excellent remixes for the theme track. props to discobelle, discodust and big stereo who posted these first (don't forget to check out the competition if you're in the UK) and i thought just in case you were a silly billy in missing out on them the first time, here they are again.
So I love the yeah yeah yeahs and when I got a remix of their song zero I was like fuck yeah.We all know who they are right? Well they've been rockin since 2000 and have realised three albums, fever to tell in 2003, show your bones in 2006 which was named second best album of the year by NME and its blitz! in 2009 and ofcourse an EP here and there. Their currently touring and will be playing at Leeds festival in
Speaking of festivals sadly I won’t be attending splendour in the grass this year because I’m too poor haha and it’s too bloody expensive who’s with me?! haha But anyway let’s talk remix artist collective aka RAC, founded by a guy named Allen Anjos, so this dude is a music artist with heaps of experience with remixing, producing and song writing and is doing most of the RAC remixes at the moment.
We also have Andrew Maury who is a multi-versed musician, producer, remix artist, has played guitar in various bands and to top that off he’s currently on tour with ra ra riot and will be opening for death cab for cutie in their April tour. Now last but not least to complete the trio there’s Chris Angelovski also known as Crookram. He’s Just released his first official promo EP.

Enjoy it! And a little happy birthday for marky as it was his birthday yesterday

there's always time for posting wobbles and this one comes all the way from the netherlands. for those of you who havn't been to amsterdam, let me paint you a picture. think of canals, architectural history and pieter cornelisz hooftstraat. ohh did i mention all the parties? and i certainly don't mean about frolicking around in the red light district, i'm looking at those ignited by the likes of the walk & rogerseventytwo. the scene there has been slow to adapt to the trends with their strong alliances to lesser liked genres but now i can assure you things are picking up. take potty mouth duo, mightyfools. their shoulder shuffling track "amsterdam" comes from the partyjunkies EP and it's huuuuge. let mightyfools paint you a picture of the dutch capital instead of me...
This morning I walked into the kitchen and met a family of cup cakes on the counter top spelling out “Happy Birthday Marky!!” I do love my flatmates and friends, sadly today is not about my birthday. Just like the rest of you lot I am currently trying to get my revision on for end of year exams. I swear they come quicker and quicker each year.
what a crazy week it's been! it started off by meeting friendly fires at a barbecue where they played a mass of disco gems and then there was the champions league which must have satisfied your drama fix for at least another couple of months. oh how i naughtily laughed at the little kid crying on tv. i also found out that there was a 10 year old horse in ireland that had a moustache and nigerian officers who arrested a thieving goat. though perhaps the most outrageous event all week was the nakedness. no, not from me this time. i mean i really didn't expect to see (how can i put it politely?) EVERYTHING of cassie and rihanna. i should have just said snatch. c'mon you got to leave something to the imagination, although, cassie does look like she could be a feisty one. props girl! and hooray for nakedrnbsinger day. so how do i end a week like that? well i say with a bit of blithe unconcern to restore the balance and provide a solid stepping stone for the next week in hand. for the forthcoming royksopp single we have TWO kris menace remixes. the second one is largely more addictive but i'm just not allowed to share that so let his first version tease you in the mean time.
it feels pretty good to be free from exams and coursework for another academic year. no more talking about increasing efficiency or investigating how to manage organisational change. that's over now and i can look forward to the weekend knowing i've got a pretty awesome five months ahead of me. so i finished my managing decisions module exam this morning half an hour early and i spent it thinking what can i share with you all? what will pick you up after work slash uni slash school etc. to get you in the celebration mood like me? step in north london based singer-songwriter zarif. i've been told she brings together the classic songwriting of stevie wonder and the 80s pop sensibilities of cyndi lauper. i'm sold. although as it's friday i'm after something with punch and a swagger which is why i have the toddla t and paul jackson remixes for you to download. don't forget tom's album is out now (it's pretty special) and the mr jackson take is a super nonchalant house jam. perfect.
now i don't normally post 'electro' as of late because i tend to let the million other blogs out there do that for me. but you know, i can make an exception. in fact in this last half of the year it's been pretty hard to hear anything new and get excited by 'electro' music. let's blame all the uninspired copycats out there. however what 'electro' should sound like now is something very much along the lines of grum. for what it is, it makes for some special listening and i know for one he loves his disco which is always a bonus point in my books. then there's fellow brit, burns. yea kind of lame he tours with calvin harris but i've always been impressed by his original productions as well as putting out one of the best "body crash" remixes last year. so here are the embers leftover in the 'electro' fire- still enough to warm you up nonetheless!
for those of you who aren't yet ready to turn on the party music and instead want to disperse into some easy listening, then i've got a cheeky little treat for you. i mean, the timing's perfect. all week i've been listening to the field's sophomore album which i have to say is fucking awesome. i've been cautiously optimistic about his follow up to "from here we go to sublime" but the talented swede certainly casts his magic. so now we have to turn to maps, to see how his response with his second album turns out. cautiously optimistic again? well not really, i've every reason to be excited about "turning the mind" when it comes out later in the year. two reasons. one, we've got the pleasure of hearing james work with the great oliver huntemann and two, this new track "let go of the fear" is already sounding special! so we're only five months into the year but hell, 2009 is going to be great for music.
the weekend doesn't officially start till tomorrow so forgive me if i'm a little premature in bringing out the party music. palms out have been on the nail when it comes to combining hip-hop and electronic music as seen in their previous releases and now it's the turn of b. rich to show everyone he's just as capable as his predecessors. the EP "ain't here to party" has an impressive remix list with both heavyfeet and ac slater producing their renowned wobbles ensuring the release is definitely on our kind of wavelength. the only thing i don't agree with is b. rich's attitude towards fun. we're always here for the party.
today i've got some serious blogging to do and we're going to start off with a trip to the 80s. i have to admit that kissy sell out's latest remixes have become tired and the novelty has worn off with his djing antics but we can't forget his talent when he first burst onto the scene. i remember seeing kissy six times in the year 2007 and each event was as fun as the last. in fact nobody can argue with his endeavour and his efforts in playing unsigned acts on his radio one show. his debut album, set to come out at the beginning of june, is hopefully going to be a nice surprise and a step into the right direction because let's face it, his live act sucked. this taster track kindly given away for free by kissy shows more dreadful vocals but you can hear some moments of promise. at least, i figured even if this isn't to my tastes, there will be some of you out there who will like it. if that's the case, make sure you show thomas your support over on his myspace!
A world that has been taken over by the likes of myspace, music blogs and emailing makes the internet a massive place. So big that it is not hard for an artist to be missed and not get a chance to be heard by an audience that may embrace them. I am sure the artist you are listening to now is an artist another read is yet to have heard or discover.
so yesterday, albeit a little miserable outside, i was at a barbecue where friendly fires were djing. to be honest i had no idea what to expect. would they play lots of their own songs? that stuart price remix? or a blend of the current new wave in pop? well in fact, nothing like that at all. instead we were treated to an awesome mix of disco jams to compliment our burger and beer combination. such a nice surprise, so much fun. you can't really fault ed mcfarlane and the rest of the boys these days, especially after the release of their album, so lets hope there's more to come. the remix here is sent in from the ever reliable marine parade and yea yea i know i'm not really a fan of the beginning where it sounds all too similar to our favourite russian (behind andrei arshavin and anna kournikova) but it soon kicks in and after all it is the mighty evil nine. you know the score by now.
I dropped my very full of music and work, external hard drive this week; it is ended up only breaking its shell so still works, thank GOD! Though if it did break you still would have got your hands on some new material from Hungarian TMX, safe to say for the next month I shall be listening to his songs before any night out.
again here's another one of those posts i should have gotten up last month so please forgive me! and again it's another one of those that you can't miss. of course you all should know i love mad decent (oh my days the major lazer album is crazy) and buraka som sistema are a gem of modernised angolan-portuguese music. in fact i could have quite easily added this to a "stalking lykke li" feature but i don't want to take anything away from the kuduro group. it's a gorgeous evening, perfect for barbecue. perhaps there's a couple of cold sausages left on the side... you're in the back garden with your friends holding a bottle of budweiser, bulmers or a cheeky glass of wine... waiting for the new episodes of "come dine with me" to come on (surely). well play this as a slowburner whilst the sun starts to go down. perfection.
Swear to god we always miss the first day of every new month! Some of last months song in my own chart, due to the reason I've been slow on the ball. But if we forget about the old stuff we would not have any influences. Here are the charts!
