the duo chesus and rodski are not to be mixed with the great tomboy and fredski nor are they a polish comedy act... in fact they are a couple of guys from wales who make music along the lines of juke, garage and house. i should have posted this back in december last year but their track "whyyyyyyyyyy?" is so damn good i can't let it go amiss. they've played alongside annie mac, sinden, toddla t (props to radio 1 for signing this geezer up) and fake blood so they're no stranger to the current UK scene. anyway shout out to ryan from electric zoo for giving everyone a heads up first.
how glad am i that all of my report writing and coursework is over for this academic year? hell yea! i say this every time but i vow not to leave it all at the last minute again. special mentions for the caramel macchiatos and vanilla lattes that have been keeping me going these last few days. so now after all that productivity i feel quite lazy. a certain mr backchat knows how much i love my football so i've just come back from watching the game. wish i didn't to be honest, one of the worst games i've seen. really not liking that the sun's gone either and the typical UK weather just drenched me on the way home. so, i'm now laying half naked next to the radiator to steal it's warmth. it may be nearly midnight but we're not tired here so we're listening to music to suit our needs. step in, rayflash, a producer from japan who's provided us with the perfect remix of stereoheroes. i put my hands up and admit that lately i've not been too fond over these so called "bangers" but this is something worth jumping about in the living room to. my friend wants to show me her crazy dancing and well she's chosen the right song for the occasion. her dance is pretty rubbish and it makes me want to laugh, but really, i just want to join in. show the guy some hearts over on his myspace yea.
I went through the Funkism mail today; admittedly, I must say I do not do this enough at all! I found myself checking out the two new Schuster&Schneider tracks. Once of which I fell in love with.
so it hasn't been all hard work for me over the weekend. i mean last night was pretty awesome for all the wrong reasons and on friday A1 bassline nailed it at no uniform. luckily i managed to have a cheeky natter with christian before he played his set- absolute nice guy by the way! we talked about a few things i can't repeat but i'll just say it involved a certain trevor loveys. haha makes me chuckle thinking about it. anyway one of my favourite releases this year has been the mega collaboration on the n.a.s.a. album and designer drugs have worked their dynamite touch on it. thanks to jeremy hughes of nile-on for sending this in. it's a million miles away from the quiet village track but this is for all you heavy heads out there who want something huuuge on their monday.
quiet village are relatively unknown in these parts of the blogosphere but their ambient style has got me on hold whilst i (slowly) recover from the weekend. i mean the cheeky starbucks and greggs, whilst a magic combination, only has short term effects yet this track enables me to rest peacefully. if your mind cogs can think back to a few months ago, you might be able to remember that i posted a toddla t remix of the exact same track. well don't expect any dancehall riddims here because this lays on the same path as air france and todd terje. bliss.
okay this is me playing catchup so please forgive if things are a little brief. i normally don't post about older tracks because FUNKISM is all about finding what's new but i may be a tad biased towards our disco house friend fabio brocato who sent in his latest remix. i urge you to check out his previous works if you havn't already because i have to say they're brilliant. here broke one, keeps true to the original but you know, he's sprinkled his magic touch to squeeze out even more listens of sebastiAn.
Bloc Party front man Kele Okereke once went to a Franz Ferdinand gig. This gig would change him and their bands life as Kele gave Alex Kapranos ( Franz Ferdinand lead singer) a Bloc Party demo CD. Because of this, we got Silent Alarm, one of the best albums I own and have heard in my (short) lifetime.
i wouldn't be like this if it wasn't for my old neighbour's vinyl collection. intrigued by anything aged 7 i got my cousin to play me neal howard's "indulge" and since then i've been addicted to house music. i was only enticed by the year 1989 written on the sleeve but oh my am i glad with my choice. it's fascinating to see the change in the music over the past two decades- even moreso now and than ever with the producers coming out of the UK. at the forefront we have the moda crew who keep going from strength to strength and now they've been confirmed for an ibiza residency at eden. high fives to all those who are going to the send-off party may 1st with pete tong, kissy sell out and chew lips! even more exciting is their record label, moda music, after having topped the juno charts with their first two releases and they are about to unleash their signature track "moda owns you" in june with remixes from torso.x and sidechains. in particular, andy george, has been busy. this remix, which the guys have kindly let me share, is another example as to why the boy's been getting so much hype. in fact, over his last few productions he's rekindled some of the magic i first found with neal howard. did i mention he's a radio 1 dj? catch him playing with soulwax at their one big weekend in swindon!
you know what I love, wearing new shoes. now not just any old pair of shoes, sneakers. The whole process is great with any great pair of shoes, you go into the shop try on a bunch of shoes that are pretty meh but then you see them and you know its meant to be in this case. I do believe in love at first sight although after my little shop today. I don’t really have any money left I bought a karma sutra book..too personal? And tickets to the getaway plan which I should have gotten ages ago, hi tops and cigarettes it was a good day but it got even better because when I jumped on the computer. I expected annoyingly slow internet but its fast. good old mum upgraded, its times like these you just got to love mums.I think this may be my longest post, I dunno what it is about this day but listening to ice cube (yes I know lame) and wearing my new shoes I’m just pulling so much shit out of my ass, now did I ever tell you about the time that I met ice cube? Haha damn right I did, so last year he was touring and he was playing a show in Brisbane and I was working at McDonalds in the city at the time and it was packed so busy. I was super shitty and not in the mood for work and these two super gangsta lookin dudes walk up and ordered two fish burgers medium fries and two garden salads (its weird that I remember that haha) and I’m just thinking wow there so gangsta and I was kind of like who is that guy he looks fimilar. anyway so he pulls out this huge thing of cash and I’m like wow and hes hell rich too and pays me and I walk away and my manager comes up to me all excited and is like BRIANA do you know who your serving?! And I’m like uhm no and hes like THAT’S ICE CUBE!! And I’m like scared I’m like are u serious I didn’t know if I should just give him his food or get an autograph or something but I was too chicken I just gave him his food with a smile.
But anyway I’m not sure which track I should put up hmm I’ve got the perfect thing keep the mood gangsta with my talk of ice cube and kicks, this is a Franco B Vocal Edit.
ahhchoooooooo! i always get hayfever in april. it can be a tad annoying when all you want to do is take advantage of the nice weather outside. you would happen to think that with the technology around in the 21st century (i'm looking to do a placement at IBM next year and they're developing 3D digital imaging for hospitals right now) yet there's nothing tactile enough out there to stop us poor souls from sneezing. i'm not going to complain though when it's this sunny- it just puts me in a good mood. i tell you who does bring a smile to my face though...JOCKS. i know jared from melasuperpoco, formerly known as FYOF, has been supporting this new producer from london as he posted up his delphic remix. if you remember we talked about JOCKS a couple of months ago when we showed you his passion pit and frankmusik mixes so for a bit of variation, i'll put up his excellent good books remix. they're a great band, and JOCKS adds a nice mellow touch. ooffff i love them drums.
oh my, the sun is out today. but, i'm going to have to ask you to put down your favourite tipple, store that barbecue away and refrain from putting on that sun cream because i need a couple of minutes of your time to check out this piece of awesome. and it's not jessica alba in her favourite bikini top. in fact, it's from another institubes gem. i love the faint and there's plenty of room about for das glow. check it out, it's insane. no download obviously and it's just a preview- but it's there to whet your appetite at the remix package and as a general tease.
I haven’t posted in so long! I’ve been busy and it also doesn’t help that my internet is annoyingly slow, but now I’m sitting at home hung over and not wanting to go anywhere. Though do you know who is awesome? M.I.A, songwriter, record producer, singer, fashion designer and artist. Her music has political lyricism and so does her artwork which I think is great and if you haven’t heard of her you will have heard her song paper planes. This song M.I.A teams up with new artist, producer, songwriter and remixer KOVAS.
So tonight is my last night at home before I fly back to England and finish up my last semester. Sadly I haven't been in the house much since being back and very rarely seeing the family or slept in my own bed. So tonight I’m going to stay in with my mum, treat her to a nice Chinese and rent us a DVD before I fly back.
waking up in the morning and attempting to do an essay about organisational change is not a good look people. i quite possibly may be able to get away with being mistaken for a zombie. in fact, i might just go scare my little cousin and give her nightmares for the laughs. jokes. so for productivity purposes i have to refrain from listening to anything that's going to distract me... damn i have to turn that toddla t and siriusmo off. instead i find myself having to listen to the likes of dee d. jackson's "galaxy of love". perhaps not a good look either but i'm a sucker for her space disco. in fact if i was ever going to have sex on the moon with someone, it would be with dee dee. heyy if she wants her dirty little robot to join in, i might just have to consider it. jokes again. that's just channel 5 creepy. anyway perfect for times of easy listening is another one of hervé's side projects, the young lovers. i remember grabbing this back in 2007 on loungin' recordings but ohh no, this is not subject for a re-release... it's going to be on the album featuring primary one and trevor loveys! out on may 11th!
perhaps you may have been wondering where i've been over the last few days? i guess i have to put it down to an accumulation of easter holidays, girl problems and seeing friends for having a mini rest from blogging. well what spare time i have been getting (should be going on doing 10,000 words worth of essays about HR and stuff) is being spent working on this mix i'm putting together. yes there's lots of disco in this but it's all about explaining the sound of 2009 via the past. you'll soon see. anyway i got sent this track the other day by the milan based djs reset! and it seems only fitting to post their bootleg. i know it's risky business messing with the mighty james brown but this is brilliant. having getting airplay support from andy george & jaymo on their monthly radio show and now a cheeky shout out by me, you're sure to be onto something by downloading this. stay on the scene, like a sex machine. enjoy!
Lady Sovereign, we all know here for her cornrows and being a girl that will beat you up, steal your phone and leave you crying. But have you lot seen her recently? Phew, she is a bit stunning after getting into some nice clothes and a new haircut. Her music as well has changed, very catchy. Funkism friend Jack Beats got involved creating that Jacking Beats sound with the signature drops tied in with "wah-wah".
Currently diving into my Lindt Golden Bunny not because it is Easter, oh no! Because a small band hailing from Newbury, Fox Cubs, have decided to pack it in :(
Toy Selectah. My favouritest head in the world right now. I stumbled across him a few months ago, super nice dude, super good tunes, and a super hot e.p just got released on MAD DECENT, for Free. I don't think its hit other blogs yet, and Toy emailed me this through. So, all yours, for free. TOY SELECTAHS E.P

ever since we posted about decibel's remix of "hacksaw" they've been getting love from all over the world which is fitting really since, by being based in newcastle, it's pretty hard to get that kind of recognition over in the north east. saying that if you're in those whereabouts make sure you're down for rub a dub dub on april 12th to see heavyfeet, ac slater, blame and one half of decibel. that one half happens to be a certain mr backchat. despite being arsenal fan (it has to be west ham for london teams all the way) we alway catch him on twitter for a little natter...and you know what? he only went and sent us in a new track! this time an original called "fully paid" which is definitely going to persuade any square feet within radius of the speakers to burst out onto the dancefloor. yes it's huuge and your nanny wouldn't like it so therefore that results in only one action- pump up the volume.
I just got home from my job interview I think it went well so that’s good, but now I’m really excited about this post because I absolutely love the getaway plan; they are from Melbourne Australia so I love great home grown talent, very unfortunate they Recently announced their break up on their MySpace blog saying, “"There comes a point in everyone's lives where they must sit back and assess if everything is working the way it should be. We have come to a decision that The Getaway Plan will no longer continue to make music together.” it’s really sad I know. But luckily they are doing a final tour with amity affliction and elora danan, I’m getting my tickets tomorrow!.

very first post how exciting, i tried to do a fast post with a quick little paragraph but pabs said it was lazy hahaha, so monday nights i think ill be doing a lot of blogging because its when i have my boring class at tafe, i know i should listen but i think using the computer to shop online and catch up with my emails is much better hahah. so yeah heres a little track that was sent to me remixed by james kane its called the day we fell in love by appaloosa it's pretty laid back and cool perfect for now as im dead tired and need to relax and sleep, i have a job interview in the morning so i need my beauty sleep. and thanks to pabs for all your help :) enjoy!
tonight's checklist: #1 ring amy, lianne and jamie to get here round mine for seven...tick. #2 pop to the shops and get some wine for the girls and jack daniels for the boys...tick. #3 tidy house ready for their arrival and hide the dog in the kitchen... tick. #4 shower and get ready for a huuuge night out together back in lincoln...tick. #5 prepare the music for us to get merry to including unleashing this new EP from NRTOB...fuck yess! we've been supporting these guys since they sent in their bizarre inc. and vitaminsforyou remixes last year and i'm glad to get the chance to talk about NROTB once again. the package contains five party starting tracks including these two remixes from designer drugs and dro & lodzy, which they've kindly let me share with you all...i mean i can safely say this is perfect for such an occasion. in fact we're listening to the EP right now and amy wants to write something... safgdfhdg'hg;dhgh these rock love medium sized boobies girl xx gaaahh wine and girls, what a deadly combination. i would delete her contribution but she's threatening to flick some kind of nail stuff in my face so it's much safer to leave it. anyhow, spread the love and blow them a kiss over at their myspace. enjoy!

perhaps i could have had a bit of fun yesterday and played an april fools on you all like posting about a new justice (fake) song. in fact props to waves at night for getting people to actually fall for that! instead i was all april fooled out from setting up this strange looking contraption on my flatmate. it involved being awake at two in the morning, barricading her in her room using our furniture and a whole load of water. i have to say seeing her get splashed after she opened the door was well worth the effort but perhaps we should have let her out in the morning to go to uni. she did endeavour to get out by using a hammer but alas, that failed! so instead we sat their and threw water bombs, then went to bed. i have to say i may be the mischievous one in the house but you know, it's always more fun to be so. you know who else likes to cause havoc? yea you've guessed it, bass weazal. i'm sure you've seen me write before about their frivolous carnage through the city setting clubs alight...and they're back again. this time around taking their huuge beats to a track that needed that extra vigour. check it out!
