this is me and my socks. i guess you're probably thinking that my socks don't match, and to be fair they're not even close! i dunno, i just like to be weird. perhaps i do have a little fetish for mixed up socks and the more colours the better (you should see my rainbow coloured ones). although i reckon you need that kind of flair to be a blogger as maybe that's what keeps you reading our ramblings, or well at least i hope! in fact i love people who like to be different from the norm. not in a look you've got a bright green mohawk kind of way but like somebody who sorts out their music collection in alphabetical order because they have a mild form of ocd. it's interesting. well anyway, one of the perks of being a music blogger is that you get to make some really awesome friends. as i was saying the other day, one of my favourite italians is not del piero but the young producer that is broke one. his music is guaranteed to contain a funky bassline and this time around he takes his talent to a track by an italian band called the nerd follia. i do love my disco house, as you may have seen with my ustwomusic posts, and broke one's work is full of it. if you havn't already, search at the top of the page for his coldplay and stadtkind remixes. check out those strings!
so i'm not just stalking a-trak this sunday evening, it turns out i'm watching this sad film. i mean with denzel washington's pretty persuasive acting and his dying son's deteriorating condition, it's enough to make some cry. obviously not me of course, ahem, but more like people such as my flatmate's brother who cried during "marley & me" ohh the shame in that. it's like a fake beethoven movie. anyway the toxic avenger and trash yourself bring you a new track that could have you in tears too. not in an ohh my days this is dreadful i just wanna cry kind of way, evidently. more like it's so brutal it's the return of the electronic banger and my ears want to stimulate into bleeding kind of way. think steve carell and loud noises!
Gosh, we at funkism are getting bad at keeping up with are emails the past week. But I’m sure a lot of you are in the same boat finding deadline dates looming at University? I myself spent the past week in the library and tonight I am going to live it up at Fresh Til Death, gosh I’m excited! After making my assignment deadline I came back to a flat of the girls making cake :D Thank you Kelly and Lucy mmmm!
okay so i know i just posted like 5 minutes ago but i'm not one to rest on my laurels. shortly after hitting the "publish post" button for the previous entry, i got a cheeky email for a new lykke li remix by villains. now i love everything this swedish PYT has done and villains always come out with a showstopper so you could certainly bet this was going to be every bit as loveable as them both. also lykke li, you're always welcome to hook up next time you're in town hah..... and you could sing to me rick ross' hustler and i could pretend i'm in a 50 cent video. the fun we could share girrl.
since i woke up i've been in something of a poppy mood listening to the likes of the tough alliance and das pop so cue ou est le swimming pool who our friends at 88 days describe as the uk's answer to passion pit. if i'm being honest i'm not really a great fan of lily allen's work but the london outfit's version adds something a bit more special to the original. although, how good is duke dumont's remix??? man, that fella is on fire! only morgan freeman knows why this got rejected by her label for release and that's only because he played god in bruce almighty. can't wait for some new material soon duke (my first dog was called this by the way) because i can never get enough. also while im here, i'm going to kill two birds with one stone and point out that there's a new bass weazal mixtape out now filled to the brim with a plethora of wobbles. nice.
Is it acceptable for me to just say "I've been very busy?" after being M.I.A from funkism for many many months ? No, its definatly not, I have a grid on my wall now, dry wipe, week by week, every hour of my time planned out. A little bit physcotic but its the only way to be right now.
last friday was by all means a mashup- it was mental! italian djs, his majesty andre and congorock, came down to moda to wobble my hometown and show all of us how the partying is done. joining them on the night were residents andy george & jaymo who, as you probably all already know, are huuuge favourites of mine and they're back on the mixes. this time around you can see how they've set themselves aside from the other copycats littering the scene with both producers going for something different. has jaymo been listening to a lot of animal collective lately? i can hear it in the esser track just a tinge but it really works so well. don't forget that you can hear andy and jaymo on their monthly bbc radio 1 show on april 3rd where they'll give you a little insight what it's like to be at a moda party for those of you who are unfortunate not to be able to come. show the boys some support over at their respective myspaces! click click click!
oh my days it's about time we get some nice weather. it's so beautiful outside i could marry the sun. yesterday we thought we'd have a little party in our back garden before moda and if you follow our twitter you probably already know what i'm going to talk about. i thought i'd get that nifty program called spotify out and play some summery songs. first up was puzique's "don't go" and my friend emma was like what the hell?! then i played alan braxe & fred falke's almighty "rubicon" and still the same baffle from emma. so what next? aeroplane's mixmag cd, how could she complain?! well she did. however... karma bit back in the form of a bee sting and she soon shut up. i shouldn't laugh but that teaches someone to diss puzique hah anyway, i've been thinking for the last twenty minutes what track shall i share with you all today? i'm going to keep it topical. for those of you who are going to join us in having a barbecue (people with good music taste are invited) then when the sun starts to retreat play this acid mix from arveene & misk who shot to fame with their mr. oizo remix. it pretty much sets the mood :)
what an awesome surprise this is. i never used to like the horrors. i always used to think they were a gimmick band. like, people used to talk more about their hair and the clothes that they wore rather than their music- where i have to say "strange house" was pretty bland. so yesterday i approached this new track with caution and i don't know if this was a random bout of extreme flair or not because this is amazing. i mean, i guess after hearing their digitalism remix i saw that this band do have some talent. it seems they've just been teasing me with tiny ripples until unveiling this waterfall. "sea within a sea" sounds like a blend between that of kraftwerk and neu! to hints of joy division and the human league. it's like 1980 again and within the duration of this eight minute epic i can pretend i'm there in the crowd getting lost in the moment and in awe of the rubik's cube. cue 3:40, and i'm in a world of my own.
is there any way we can feed blogger? like can we give it a dairylea dunker or something? or perhaps sacriface a goat? it keeps getting hungry because it's eating some of our posts! i emailed blogger the other day saying we have permission to post these tracks and i've yet to hear a reply hmmmm but anyway since it's been a few days and i'm really falling behind on my blogging, i'm going to share four tracks at once. one being this remix by the quite awesome acid girls who take a track, that fred falke remixed last year, to make it even more enjoyable. many thanks to music for dreams again too ♥♥♥♥
it's harder to find nice photos from the 70s or 80s than i thought so instead, you're going to have to make do with this pretty young thing looking all hungover. it seems like she's going to need that glass of water indeed! anyway, i really need to start catching up on my posting- it's all piling up. consequently that means i'm going to have to post two tracks today. lucky you! first up is a remix by an italian team called scuola furano who've been getting support from lots of their well known counterparts. namely bot from crookers who offered his help on the production of this remix. some other cheeky italians who have been getting just as much acclaim, 3 is a crowd, laid their hands on this remix for mister dj orgasmic and a certain teki latex for a nice blend of french hip-hop. more from me tomorrow!
so any you people out there who have some sort of indie disco? fed up of playing that same old sebastiAn remix of the kills? only so much alphabeat one can take? want to play some metronomy but in need of something that will light up the club? well the quite awesome radioclit are teamed up once again with bonde do role's marina for another cheeky little remix. there's something about r-a-d-i-oooooooooooo l-a-d-i-oooooooooo in that sultry voice of marina that's very hard to forget. it's addictive. and them jungle drums from radioclit! damn just wish they'd produce more.
one thing i can't help but love is mixing the old with the new. for example the soulwax studio- you've got all these 70s analogue and midi controller thingies hooked up to one state of the art computer. as a result you get a sound you can't replicate. here stupid fresh take a prince classic from the 80s and give it their modern twist. what more can i ask for? the british duo are currently on an australia tour so if they're in your town make sure you join in support for their huuge beats. keep an eye out for more on the mighty bomb squad!
