blue dream lover
pic: lucem

okay so i think the UK is in need of some emergency sun. it's so cold it's unbelievable grrr or should that be brrrrrrr. had to get up at seven today so the last thing i wanted was get out of the shower freezing like leo in titantic. then got to my class (rushing because i thought i was late) only to be greeted by a bit of paper on the door that said "managing on a global context lesson canceled due to staff absence". oh my days, i was fuming. so consequently i had to walk back home in the COLD because i'd spent my change on breakfast and i didn't want to be lumped with an exchange fair if i'd paid with a tenner. then i get in and check my emails but instead see a headline that we're going to get arctic weather next week! i mean that's just ridiculous. minus 1 degrees during the day- rubbish! anyway so luckily fabio brocato, also known as broke one, sent me in a new remix of an australian band called elke (I URGE YOU TO CHECK THEIR SONGS OUT) which at the moment seems to be bringing a nice little slither of warmth. if any other brits out there are feeling the teeth of jack frost then give this a cheeky little play :)

harder better faster dirtier
pic: loveisaplasticshield

so i guess perhaps posting about the same artist two times in a row is somewhat a faux-pas- but i've good reason to. out on february 2nd is djedjotronic's mighty EP, "dirty & hard". can anybody remember that ronseal advert? (incidently that new cadbury's advert with them crazy synchronised eyebrows freaks me out)- but anyway it used to say it does exactly what it says on the tin. this is no different. the EP is most definitely dirty and is harder than an angry schwarzenegger. it features four tracks including vocals from south africa's spoek b and a nifty remix from boys noize himself. however this little gem from keatch proves why we should never estimate those belgians. vocals aside, this remix positively shows signs of a true killer. yikes!

you can listen to a teaser of djedjotronic's new release on the boys noize website as well as a new mix from the french producer.
more updates soon..
thanks alex!

funkism facebook group
okay so its 08:14 in the morning and i've had just three hours sleep- what am i doing awake? crazy fool? well truth is my mind has been elsewhere. my urge for bed has been ever so welcomely substituted by excitement. whilst crashing in at five last night, i was greeted by two shiny discs on my bedroom table! now i could be cruel and keep you guessing as to what has lured me away from the land of nod but im not that mean. actually i am quite a bastard. how about i give some clues? the first disc is a package from the blog world's favourites and are playing moda next month-tremendous. the second is an album from a guy who told me nearly a year ago that this was due for a release real damn soon. he lied! but it's certainly well worth the wait. and in fact- well worth feeling tired for.

FUNKISM FACEBOOK GROUP

anyway, instead of being a tease, i just wanted to give you all a quick heads up about the funkism group on facebook. so if you're a fan, please join :) it's just a bit of fun. you can say what you like. you can stalk other readers pink panther style. or even bombard yann and marky with love letters. whatever tickles your fancy.

The American Dream Team Remixes Trouble Andrew

Cody (Code - D) of the American Dream Team sent over some more fire to my inbox a couple of days ago. I played it out the day I got it and people went banana's. A bit faster than we're used to from Cody, clocking in at around 142bmp, with almost croony vocals the track is perfect to get you back on the floor when you were thinking about going home.

if you go down to the woods today part. 4
what's better than unexpectedly finding a five pound note in your old coat pocket? is it- finding a double decker in your lunchbox? watching a jean-luc godard film? reading a kurt vonnegut classic? no. how about- getting the last blackcurrant fruit pastel in the packet? a free ice cream with your meal? your favourite team coming out on top in their derby match? not quite. so perhaps, waking up in the morning next to adriana lima? or mélanie laurent? olga kurylenko? possibly waking up to all three? well i guess there's no contest there... apart from a new bass weazal mixtape! yay! you know technically it's the year of the ox but we can change that- i've got a good feeling that it's going to be the year of the WEAZAL!

DL:
bass weazal mixtape part. 5 [zshare]

so i guess what's better than a bass weazal mixtape? certainly not hasselhoff in lederhosen but rather, another cracking bootleg from the duo. the sun's just come out too and my dog is humming to m83.. perfect :)

bsbtrgdclubskrpafjgkfgltiiyiykr
pic: bsbtrgdclub

most of the time i'm good with acronyms so it's a bit of a baffle as to why i can never remember the meaning of BSBTRGDCLUB- let alone the spelling. it is kind of hard i guess. just like thinking of a reason as to why, right now, i'm eating coleslaw whilst using a sausage roll as some form edible cutlery. strange huh? well the motive for jillijill and propro's moniker is not really as such a mystery anymore- it is in fact some kind of 'anti-marketing' concept. the idea is to, in a way, hide their identity with a twist by people not being able to remember their name. respect to that i say. so what does BSBTRGDCLUB stand for? well you'd be wrong if you thought it was welsh for after-school gym lessons... it indeed stands for "backstreet boys total rude ghetto dancing club". now my imagination cogs in my head yield some intrigued thoughts- would i like to join this club? would i look an idiot rude ghetto dancing to that way? hmmmmmm slight trepidation here. though i need not worry really. BSBTRGDCLUB make some pretty bad-ass music. i'm sure with all this blog LOVE they've received since the montreal outfit first started out, that you would have heard some of their productions? their latest weapon of mass destruction is WILD. the sort of track that when you hear just a hint of it being dropped at a club, it's more than enough to cause a frenzy. certainly not tameable and its probably suitable to warn your neighbours before listening to this remix. they most definitely know how to party, and for that reason i'd like to be a part of their club. i want a badge!

Kill The Noise remixes the Retro Kidz

Hello Funkers, it's been a while. You look great, have you been working out? Awsome.

Apologies for the lack of posts. I've been, happy to say, very busy, trying to turn my city into something I want it to be, through the power of party throwing.

Today i recieved from one of my favourite gentleman my current song of the year. I know i know its only the middle of January but it's gonna be really hard for this one to get knocked it's top spot for me in the coming months.

As far as I can tell from Hype M this hasn't hit any of the blogs yet so I hope this is a nice surprise for a lot of. Mr Kill The Noise has remixed the Retro Kidz. This track manages to be bouncy sexy jackin' evil and grindin' all at the same time. All I can think of is vampiresque goth chicks rocking about to this jam in the darkest corner of the darkest club in the city. Also incase it slipped by you Kill The Noise and Villains are doing a track together, it's been sitting under the 'forthcoming' header on Villains' myspace for a while now and it seems recently the track has been named. Its called "Back To Cali" and features Whiskey Pete. I'll try to post a clip soon, very excited about this one.

So. You need to get this. We could all get some iphone twitter esque link up and play it in clubs all over the world at exactly the same time.

That'd be nice.

bless your little cotton socks
pic: lulurouge

heyy boody b over at palms out sounds pointed us into the direction of a lovely danish record label- music for dreams. in fact they've made quite an almighty impression on us. not just because they've ever so kindly let us share two epic tracks with you all but because of the acts that kenneth bager's label have on offer. here they have two remixes, from the french little d*i*r*t*y edit himself pilooski and the enigmatic trentmøller, for the lulu rouge super duo. here are some facts about these guys:

1. the debut lulu rouge album "bless you" is out now
2. they are thomas bertelsen and torsten bo jacobsen
3. trentmøller used to be a former member
4. they are one of a kind on the scandinavian electronic scene
5. a free lulu rouge dj-set is available on last.fm

if you like what you hear (and you totally should) then you can buy their releases from the itunes fairies. what better way to spend your student loan money?? hmmmm well apart from jack daniels whiskey and costa rican coffee beans. now that is a purchase.

electronic poet
pic: thejapanesepopstars

funkism favourites, the japanese popstars, have a little free gift for us all. a nominee for britain's best breakthrough producers by dj mag, they've grown from strength to strength since the release of their debut album. in fact, they came in at seventeenth place in both ours and popjustice's end of year album charts! the unreleased track, electronic poet, is a little bundle of joy that has the northern irish outfit's signature sound written all over it. definitely worth a cheeky listen. in other news i guess it's fitting to tell you that beyonce's people loved the japanese popstars remix of if i were a boy so much that they let the guys work their magic on her forthcoming single single ladies. now isn't that quite possibly the best news you've heard today. preview on their player!

lets play catch up
pic: opikate

well guys im back! just finished a 3 hour exam, yikes! no more essays for a while either so joy for me. i'm guessing now that means the blogging fairies are coming back to get funkism in order again and on that note, i'll put up a couple of more tracks than normal. bare with me...

first up is something that is pretty special. i mean the whole n.a.s.a. project bringing many huge names together is golden but this remix by la riots is by far the best out there. in fact it's quite possibly their most impressive remix they've done to date. it's crazy.

next is a little gift from traktor records andres klein. parisian powerhouse don rimini is known for his electric savageary and autodisco (a collaboration between autodidakt and john disco) add a new twist to last years scariest track. apparently there was a little mishap with the remix contest due to something about not realising the need to sign up on fairtiliser but nonetheless, don rimini picked this remix as his favest!

fidget darling wonk has produced a few killers we've taken a real liking to lately, namely that addictive jump bootleg. she's back with calvertron for her new track just released on beatport. this is just a sample wonk gave me but its just a taster of why its rapidly moving up the charts.

lastly here's something recommended by our lovely italian friend, cri. she's nice and i like calcutta bubbles name so i'll include it in this post :)

hopefully now that work is out the way, there will be more updates soon.
including some new japanese popstars :) :) :)

lucky dip
our french friends from lucky dip have been rocking itunes ever since they started in the summer. they've had quite a few huge names participating on their podcasts including fellow reims boy, brodinski! impressive yeah? our foamo and the heavy-duty parisian don romini have also joined in the mix supporting their profound love for all killer electro and house music. if you havn't already, you can join the ever increasing subscribers list here on itunes. now dragan and keyes have taken france by a storm, they've set their sights on the rest of the world. last month saw the first ever lucky dip party hosted in the country where all the locals love crazy sex, drugs and dennis bergkamp- in other words holland! i guess i have to admit that you can't expect a technical electronic classic but what you do get is masses of electro goodness. perhaps naked raving? dirty dancing? drunken kissing? who's know but i should be there! a few days ago they played with australia's trumpdisco which i know went down a treat in their hometown and on jan 17th they will be playing in disney land paris.. wow! mickey mouse is gonna hammered woop :)

andy george & JOTS
so i guess what better way to start the year than to look at some of the promising talent around now. since appearing on the essential mix with jaymo back in april '08, andy george is now a part of a monthly slot on radio 1 alongside his partner in crime where they showcase the latest new music they've been loving. louis la roche, nadastrom, jack beats.. for example? but also chatting to armand van helden, grum and brodinski. not only that, andy released an almighty EP with scott cooper as well as producing that killer remix of lord skywave. huge indeed. i guess just as impressive is his residency at the moda parties which are now officially (accordingly to mixmag) the fourth best night in the UK. woop! well they'd be my number one but hey, i'm biased with lincoln being my hometown and all. at the end of last year saw sheffield DJ, toddla t, take a trip down to moda where he unleashed his manabadman track which feartures serocee. wow that's some crazy shit but i love it! so how kind of the pair to share andy george's refix of the track. check it out! and i guess while i'm here i might as well kill two birds with one big funkism stone. another pair to look out for in 2009 are jokers of the scene. there's little point in me already adding to the countless praise JOTS have received from numerous blogs since they first announced onto the world so i'll keep it short and sweet. i heart jokers of the scene just as much as i do for a certain olga kurylenko. god, she's sexy! ohh and make sure you keep an eye on future moda music releases :)
