a cross the universe
pic: lastfm

this weekend i finally got some time to watch the justice film/documentary and i was pleasantly surprised. to be honest, i have to admit that i wasn't too excited about this since news first came about and i already thoroughly enjoyed part of the weekend never dies but.. i found myself chuckling away for an hour. i know a cross the universe doesn't have the informative showing and canny interviews like the soulwax effort (in fact this seems as if loads of clips have been whacked together) but nevertheless, it's rekindled some embers of fun that have been laying around since i first heard about justice in 2004 (damn is it really that long ago?). wow that makes me feel a little old. so this short film follows the french duo through their US tour and albeit there are many clips with little purpose, it's all fused into one with the antics they get up to. it's their flippant attitude towards life that i love. when gaspard and xavier are throwing snowballs at each other, playing basketball in the supermarket or playing pranks on each other.. it shows that they are still down to earth despite their worldwide success. i guess this is very much up to debate though. some people think they've grown some arrogance?? personally i don't. i believe they're merely just very naughty boys. i mean, who can blame them really. if it were me and my friends on tour, we'd be doing the exact same thing for sure. the dvd is out already and can be bought on most online music stores so if you feel like aiding their mischievous shenanigans and future projects, please go out and do so. while i'm on the subject of justice, recently they did an exclusive mix for fubiz on the 38th broadcast to celebrate the release of their film. if you wan't to listen to this then just click the link below :)

DL:

justice - waters of nazareth (justice remix)

i know when you listen through you can hear other tracks but this is the tracklisting romain from fubiz gave me. keep an eye on their future podcasts since they've featured the likes of lifelike and benjamin diamond previously. enjoy!

p.s. don't you think it would be cool to meet busy p after watching this film documentary?? he seems sound as.

fox eyes under my prize
pic: crumpstock

in current society i know fox hunting is baaad. in fact, most types of hunting is generally frowned upon (as is hijacking an oil tanker tut tut naughty somali pirates). however, mr fox is the evil arch enemy of the bass weazal duo so what should they do? bury their animosity and make friends? get eaten? no no no you get someone else to carry out the dirty work! cheeky buggers. so who will be up to the task i hear you ask... bruce wayne? no he doesn't kill. la femme nikita? nah, she'll be old now. kung fu panda? damn he's too busy catching up on his celeb's with plants gossip! ohhh look it's lindsay lohan and her south african cactus he says.. sort your self out po! there are bigger problems in existence at the moment, like evil foxes and primark. consequently, the weazals looked towards an old friend who they knew they could trust to cause havoc: the norwegian fidget gangster that is aniki. being a chaos seeking critter himself, aniki is no stranger to making a raving mess with his dj arsenal that features his own killers such as heavy sound and hip hop thrilla. check out his myspace to listen to some previews! in preparation to fulfill such a deed, helge has put together an insane bass weazal bootleg which will scare mr fox into hiding. what a coward! if you like machines don't care, you'll love this. make sure you keep an eye for aniki's forthcoming releases on wearhouse music and sick recordings. crazy.

give my love a try
pic: vladimirborowicz

wahey it's three o' clock here and my weekend is about to start! usually i'd like to wind down right about now to set myself in good stead for another night out, but today, i feel like a change. the thing is, it's so cold here at the moment and it sucks. when i look out my window, it looks sunny outside. it's deceiving. because as soon as i step one foot out of my door, i freeze to death. i mean, i don't actually mind winter too much. it's the perfect season to aid my coat fetish and i like leaving trails when it snows. i guess best of all i love going to bed cold and snuggling up in my covers to get warm but it's just at present, the winter is making everyday tasks a little bit harder. waking up in the morning means having a shower during temperatures that polar bears are accustomed to and going to uni often involves me shivering in some sort of way. so leading back to me wanting to kick the weekend off right now.. it's just too cold to wind down. sure i can make myself a hot chocolate or something but that would be boring right? instead, i want to revive my bedroom disco with the help of hugo van dyck and us two music. these guys always have the perfect track for such moments of impulse and this time it's the turn of multi-talented hugo to spread the disco magic. not only is he an actor, singer, photographer and fashion designer.. he has a hand at producing music also. impressive don't you think! his debut release is being released on the highly acclaimed dutch music label us two music featuring remixes from livyo, matt hughes, kids on coke and david pollen. although they've very kindly let me share the leon du star remix with you all and in full quality as well! you know, it's over eight minutes of disco bliss and shall be the song to officially start the weekend for me. just imagine if we all played this track simultaneously.. wouldn't that be quality! we'll be in our own bedroom discos doing whatever special dances it is you do. with this song, i think i'd like to do a little shoulder shuffle whilst doing the buttons on my shirt. perfect non? expect a hugo van dyck album to come out on us two music sometime mid 2009!

Invaders Must Die
pic:wiki

Last night I hit Leeds, tonight I'm working at 11-4am. I'm fine with going to work and really loving it only thing is I'm covered in marker pen and I can't seem to get it off me after Leeds. Anyone with a quick fix for this problem before I hit work?

Last night brought the memories of festivals all back flooding back. The late nights when you never find yourself wanting to sleep in case you missed something and even the singing of songs from Daft Punk to The Killers. This summer I had the chance to catch The Prodigy on tour of the festivals, and to catch them where I believe they are at their best. That's right the out door fields playing to the emo's, the indie people and also the chav's, who seem to be joining in on the idea of the festival as a holiday.

The touring of the festivals for The Prodigy was an exclamation to their fans that they are back from their break. A chance for them to experiment with music and how it affects their crowds before finishing their 5th album "Invaders Must Die"

The new album is due for release on March 2, 2009. But already they are giving out a free track this week, four months before the albums release!! The band have said that the album will go back to their "old-school but cutting edge" roots, and will feature collaborations with Dave Grohl and James Rushent (of Does It Offend You, Yeah?). Their first single 'Invaders Must Die" feats James Rushent.

To coincide with the release of the 5th production album, the band will embark on a nine date, UK arena tour. And looking at the support they have, the ticket is worth every penny. Dizzee Rascal stage presents is more than enough to get the crowd upbeat before a Prodigy performance. Fight Like Apes shall also be a support act included on the tour, their energy this band brings is like a mosh pit during a Prodigy performance and should help with a stellar nine days of touring and banter!

Tacklisting for album:

  1. Invaders Must Die [alt]
  2. Omen
  3. Thunder
  4. Colours
  5. Take Me To The Hospital
  6. Warrior's Dance
  7. Run With The Wolves
  8. Omen Reprise
  9. World's On Fire
  10. Piranha
  11. Stand Up

there are some things in life that have vacuous relevance, like cling film for example (damn i hate that stuff so much it never rips off nicely for me). for the past two years i've been discovering just how pointless cooking for one person is sometimes. i mean, has anybody tried putting one portion of peas into a pot to cook? it's pretty much pointless. furthermore there is the small problem of the extra washing up. hmmm i guess there's no way round it. do i just not eat any vegetables and save the hassle? should me and my friends eat as a group?? i dunno. i say vegetables, but really, i'm not sure if you can class eating peas as a good source for getting your vitamin intake. i think it's scary how much unhealthy food i eat. soo i sit at my desk on my laptop eating cookies (yet again) and listening to some old skool french pop music. neither one are good for me but you know, should i care? both are equally as addictive and they make me happy woop. if there was some sort of way of sending each one of you some of my cookies through the power of the internet then i would be doing that right now but at present, sadly no such invention exists. however, i do have something that will put a smile on your face. yuksek's latest remix of tommy sparks is very generous on the catchiness. you know, it's nice to see yuksek back on form. it seems like forever (last january i think) when pierre said to me his album was nearly finished. eleven months down the line, where is it?? i guess we can only let our anticipation grow further. we've had the tonight EP as a teaser and his output of remixes ensure we never go cold turkey but i hope the i'm a rope remix is enough to suppress the hunger of an LP release. keep an eye out on further details soon and also, his other project with rolf honey. in the mean time, stay clear of cling film. it's evil!

while i'm hear i guess i better let you all know about sinden's new club night in london called mega mega mega. it will be huuge! tonight it launches featuring guests such as skream, emynd & bo bliz, frankmusik, solid gold as well as a dj set from the count & sinden themselves. if your nearby i'd certainly recommend it anyway but to whet your appetite over what to expect, sinden has done a minimix showcasing some of the acts that may make an appearance. enjoy!

Monday Mix ! By The Uniforms

Hodgkin and Maciass become The Uniforms, code term used by the Police of Baltimore when they are running after a black male wearing air force 1 shoes and white tee shirt.

The "The", set before Uniforms is to give a rock'n'roll attitude to their name for girls !

Their new monday mix, Still Cooking, remains very fresh...

it's time to take a trip down memory lane today. remember the post 'flirting with vacuous nostalgia' which looked at music suited for larking about in the autumn? combinations of a god, music fit for heaven and all that?? well i'm taking a revisit to the young italian producer that is broke one who featured in the second part. by stimulating your memory mind cogs, you may remember me saying his remixes are usually something like a juxtapose. in fact i said that his productions are at parts, tranquil and mellow; but when the choruses come in... they sound like the forgotten brothers of lifelike or kris menace. although this time, i may have to adjust that statement a little. his remix of stadtkind no longer sounds like the siblings of scandinavian producers and in most cases i would have to forgive you if you thought the bassline for killer deffos! was strummed by a certain xavier de rosnay or breakbot. it's the clear dance inducing factor isn't it? and when them strings come in?? it's quite pleasant indeed. the mild distortion and charming touch is always ever present but still, these are big words. i'm hoping you all will enjoy this remix as much as i did because it's really well crafted and clearly it's the output of vast endeavour. by the way i should add that stadtkind is also producing music under another moniker known as lebatman (the batman!??). spooky. anyway, i'll leave you to enjoy the track in the full quality that broke one gave me but also, the chance to love his life in technicolour remix again. please share your thoughts on their respective myspace profiles, i'm sure they'd very much welcome it :)

*Exclusive!* FANTASTADON! *Exclusive*

This is an exclusive depending on how fast Alex from Discodust is. Ahaha. Woke up this morning at 9, was suppossed to get up at 6 to go stick flyers up in the city but my bed was just farrr too comfy. And what reward to did i get for eventually dragging my ass out of a bed? My inbox pulsing with two fantastic new remixes from Mr Fantastadon. TJ has kept me me up with what his been doing and i've followed with an eagle eye.

Heads up, he's got an absolutly amazing track called Fantasdonkulous which was originally scheduled for release way way too far away (next year?). Theres talk now that it may hit the blogs sooner rather than later. Go to his myspace to have a listen.

But for now, heres 2 of his most recent remixes, a Funkism Exclusive, that will more than tide you over untill the mighty Fantasdonkulous is released.

if you go down to the woods today part. 2
pic: bassweazal

if you go down to the woods today, be sure of another big surprise! following on from when we discovered the weazals were leaving the woods to cause some insane havoc, they're back causing more mischief than ever before. having turned the nights of the city upside down, they headed for norway in search for new pastures to destroy. little did helge teigen hansen, aniki, know that he was in for a wave of trouble. one frosty evening, aniki was in his moment making music like he usually does (perhaps scantily clad in suspenders watching richard and judy; i'm not too sure on the facts)... when the two dirty scoundrels pounced in and twisted aniki's dimension into a bubble of disarray. the result? well thankfully helge lived to tell the tale, only having suffered nosebleeds and savaged ears, but these days you can find him back in his studio slightly shaken and telling the fable of two weazals with disturbing motives. some people choose not to believe such horrors, yet some find themselves intrigued and powerless to listen in on bass weazal's recklessness. though remember, curiosity didn't kill the cat... the weazal's jacking beats and treacherous bass did. however for those sceptics out there, aniki shows them one last relic of truth. a bass weazal reeemix. some say it's mythical power has the ability to explode dancefloors all over across the world simultaneously? some say you can no longer insure your ears if you've listened to this? some say armand van helden and kissy sell out are the magicians behind the duo? well the latter is simply not true but you've been warned. beware!

Jo Kira, Just Stiletto's & BRA'S
pic:myspace.com/jokiramusik
So maybe not the best of days for marky! Missing a lecture in Journalism Law due to getting to bed after 5am and also the fact N. Ireland got beat by Hungry at Winsor Park. Like England we didn't put out a great team due to it being a friendly. Unlike England though, we fell to a 2-0 defeat. I have also just been reminded 10 minutes ago that Hijack is playing in Sheffield tonight which i am gutted about. In fairness i am in no shape to head out with assignments coming out of my ears.

When deadlines loom you either plan your work in advance, do a little bit a day? Or your like me, leave it to the last possible moment. Getting your writing hand lo0sened up or giving her 90 on your laptop keyboard! Either the paper method or computing method i always have music on in the background. I try to listen to new music i don't know much about other wise i find myself singing along.

Today and tomorrow while doing these assignments, i plan to listen to Jo Kira. Finally! after waiting weeks for her booked studio session to arrive, Jo finally sent me over her latest two tracks. On the handover telling me she wants the nice Funkism! fans to get first listen. Jo Kira is DJ/ producer from Leeds, a scene that seems to be surrounded by DnB. Jo Kira has tried to influnce the city lovers and clubbers with her non commercial house, predominantly fidget/jackin' tracks in her CD case.

Being a female DJ gives the people of Leeds a refreshing lift from a job that is dominated by men. If anything i would believe this to make Jo Kira more determined in her work, also not a person to do things by half!

Sister to two brothers, that i know of, helped teach her the skills to mix music at a young age. While all us at a young age where chasing girls and wondering why there is hair growing in certain places, Jo Kira was busy building up her vinyl collection while Jason Fakeerah (brother and also DJ) kept her on track to perfecting them mixing skills.

After a number of DJ nights and the gaining of experience, Jo Kira is beginning to find her sound of incorporate tough jackin’ beats along with funky vocal tracks which can definitely be found in her own productions. Cheeky and catchy!

DL:

Jo Kira can currently be heard playing various guest slots throughout the UK. Unable to attend any of her sets? No worries Jo Kira has her own radio show on Radio Frequency 88.1 fm/ www.radiofrequencyfm.co.uk Every Thursday 7-9pm.

From experience I wouldn't really call it a radio show? More of a "Jo Kira Weekly Essential Mix.' For 2 hours you will hear Foamo, the latest that Switch remix, Crookers, Fake Blood...her own tracks. Your getting an idea of the show? A radio slot dedicated to anything WONK! & WOBBLY! Famous or infamous, a great show to discover new tracks from around the globe or your local city!

show me your gas face
pic: spider-kiss

well i know i was dressed as a pirate last week but rest assured it was for only that wednesday! i should point out that i haven't been participating in the hijacking of south korean oil tankers near the somalian coast. that's the truth! nor have i been representing a rebel crew negotiating with vela international for a healthy ransom. not at all. although don't you think these modern pirates are living a great life?? i mean, they just stroll over on their speed boat to their desired ship... hop on with their bazookas, rocket launchers and machines guns, then they seize the tanker in order to claim millions of dollars. in fact i heard that this year alone, those somalian pirates have earned up to $30 million through their uncivilised shenanigans. furthermore, when they're resting on their laurels between attacks, they frolic with their riches and debauchery! appealing, no?? i'll let you guys decide on this lifestyle, i guess it certainly wouldn't be tedious. (i've been in a topical mood today and listening through the entire pete and the pirates discography hah) so anyway, today, i have two remixes to share from the latest dave spoon & pete tong release. well i know you're going to say urrrgh pete tong is that radio guy who can't pronounce crookers properly and he has no idea who death from above are... but it's not them two im concentrating on. more like the japanese popstars and lee mortimer. i don't think i need to introduce the japstars since they've been a constant favourite with funkism (marky's a massive fan) but for those who don't know, lee mortimer has been a fidget daddy for a while now. in fact, if you haven't already, you should definitely check out his record label which features the likes of bass weazal. yay! im making both files 128kbs while they're on sale so if you want to use them... they'll be out now on most digital music download stores!

i won't let you go until you say please
pic: chromeo

heeey guys, finally im back! the presentation i had to produce is over, the weekend has been and gone, which leaves me nicely onto some blogging time for you all. woop woop! in fact since the endeavour i had to endure last week...i think life has been treating me well as a kind reward. i mean, my team won 5-0 (now you're all going to find out that yes i am a manchester united supporter) but oh my days danny welbeck, what a goal. then, my friends came up to visit for the weekend and albeit it was only two weeks since i had last seen them...for me it had been two long weeks overdue! so all in all everything's good and i should be more active in the near future. by the way, how were all your weekends?? anything interesting to tell me about? the dirtier and funnier the better! anyway in keeping with the upbeat theme and to perhaps cheer up those who haven't had such a fortunate weekend, i have a present for you gift-wrapped in a tiny red bow from bacardi's b-live program. excited you say?? well you should be since the fools gold producers are remixing chromeo! words cannot describe how much i love chromeo. anyone who has the audacity to go on yo gabba gabba and make me laugh is a hero and chromeo certainly are legends for doing so. i guess this a bit random, but nonetheless still an interesting fact...dave 1 is actually brothers with a-trak. pretty cool, yea? anyhow what i'm leading onto is that here i have treasure fingers' b-live pemberton mix to share. for the simple matter of maths i don't really need to go into the reasons of why you should get your hands on this (i.e. chromeo + treasure fingers = sexy time) but regardless of their backgrounds, it's gorgeous. indeed.

so just a quick one from me today before i go out. i'll start off by pointing you all towards a little something by the lovely john bourke and heidi cannon who have kindly shared their new track for us (i've been meaning to post this for ages but never had the time sorry!). but anyway, this really is heavy. like an electro punk monster! perhaps you'll remember trash yourself from their version of blur's song 2 when they collaborated with the toxic avenger...or maybe their last release which featured a remix by the ever impressive ac slater. i must warn though, it's kinda dark and experimental as well as dynamite ...not for the light-hearted!

and before i go, our friends at fabriclive have provided a mix to share which yuksek created in celebration of his appearance at fabric on friday the 21st november. there's no tracklist as of yet but at least it keeps you guessing as you listen through...you know, keeps it fun. the shoe's remix of primary 1 put a smile on my face anyway. i should also note, that on the 21st, yuksek will be joined by the likes of annie mac, brodinski, surkin and dj mehdi! should be amazing :)

Teen Symmetry
pic:myspace.com/teensymmetry

Funkism - A music blog always bring you exclusive tracks yeah? Always giving you reasons to come back and read the new gear we seem to have each day? But also a blog that wants to try and bring you the newDJs and producers from around the world causing a storm.

In particular we are looking to be one of the blogs helping to push the UK scene to such leaves that we all are jealous France has. To be able to do this we need YOU the DJs and producers to get in touch with us.

We cant write what we don't know remember!

Teen Symmetry was one of these a young DJs/ producers that got in touch with us recently, in fact today! Teen Symmetry is a young man from Bournemouth, England. He took his passion for the world of music more seriously around the age of 18, getting himself involved with different bands. When he turned 21 he realised that his interests have changed. With this he has packed in the band and the roadies and replaces them with a laptop, midi mixers and a keyboard. This brought together makes the Teen Symmetry sound which hebelieves blends the sounds of dirty disco punk with dancey electro. Can go wrong with that if you want people dancing to your songs and DJ sets! Its not electro, it's not Techno and it's not House but through his mixtapes and also remixes you can hear the elements coming together giving him a fun yet "I want to hear that a few more times" sound

Not even a year old, the projected started off last February, and it has quick made headway were he has brought out his own remixes of tracks by three of my favourite artists MSTRKRFT, Frankmusik and A1 Bassline!

These remixes have got Teen Symmetry spotted, giving him support slots with Le Petit Pilous, Foals and Alex Metric to name drop a few. This lad is doing well for himself, to help prove this point he set in tracks and a mixtape.

With being a new DJ/ producer trying to get noticed and fame I believe the best way is to send in a mixtape. Delivering to us all what sound you play and give us the listeners a listen to any tracks that have went under our radar!

tomorrow im going to be dressed as a pirate! not because i just feel like it, nor am i off my rocker, but instead it's for fancy dress at my friends birthday. i've rummaged around for a pirate waistcoat, boots, hat, belt and eyepatch rather successfully yesterday so i think i may just look convincing. might i add as well, that i bought a musket gun from the pound shop for that extra captain jack sparrow authenticity...oh yea, i may have hustled a pirate sword from there too. although i must say, it was entirely unintentional and accidental. i think the cashier woman thought they were both part of the same thing. stealing is bad kids! maybe, i'll draw a beard and some tatoos on myself... graaaaawwwhhhhhh (my attempt at a pirate noise by the way). anyway, chances are tomorrow, im going to be far from a player. in fact, i'll just be some sea scavanger who's only best friend is the ocean that needs to be conquered. at least i won't be alone hehe however, crux records fifthteenth release is all about players. and they didn't disappoint! the guys managed to get the rights for the vocal allowing for a true blend between fidget house and hip-hop. the bryan cox remix i have to share features wave after wave of sharp electro goodness whilst incorporating the rhymes with maximum effect. the release, also featuring chew fu and j. cast, is available to buy on beatport for a limited of time so make sure you don't miss out!

second up is a cracking mix by player player. i'm sure you all wouldnt have forgotten about his original track lonely, which featured support from the likes of kissy sell out as well as discodust, and the incredible fake blood mars remix that i regard as the best out of the lot. this time player player is back with a mix in it's own bubble of fun metaphorically blown up by the electronic pulses that the body sends out when stimulated by the fidgety house music we've all grown to love. when xander sends me the tracklist i'll put it up but for now, we'll have to guess whilst we listen. expect some jack beats, action man and debtoi...though don't you just love the introduction?? perfect!

DL:

and finally, the lovely james from civil music, provides us all with some kotchy goodness which he describes as beautiful and anthemic dub-conscious music for fans of the likes of flying lotus and such. i would certainly trust what james and civil music say considering they are behind the likes of the great rusko and one of our favourites at the moment, drums of death. furthermore, thanks to the great people at civil music, you can get a handful of more free tracks from them including kotchy at their site. head over to show some support.

well that's it from me today...i really should get back to doing my work since im kind of running out of time! although i should have something special for you all sometime soon along with some intriguing interviews!

a common argument i always have in the house with my friends...is what to put in a sandwich toastie (if not who is going to make it). i mean for me, you can't go spoiling and over-complicating one with olives, turkey rashers and other weird concoctions. besides, would they even compliment one another?? i think not! instead, i like to go for cheese (cathedral city baby) and lea perrins sauce...by far the best option don't you think? see, they were made for each other. like cheese and tomato for instance. perhaps, ant & dec...or simon cowell and high trousers. in fact, there are million examples i could choose from. so what happens when you put andy george with jaymo? yeaaa, not only are we blessed with the residents for an extra special monthly party that is moda, but they provide us with the perfect radio show on the first friday of every month. what makes last week's a must listen, is that they were joined by the legendary producer that is armand van helden- who showcases a new mix and an intriguing interview. lets get to know some more about mr avh and his latest release shake that asss...the mowgli remix is a bomb! not only that, they have brodinski speaking on the phone utilising that french accent of his and...yes there's another and...you can hear fake blood's forthcoming remix of hot chip! woop woop! sooo how would you go about listening to this i hear you ask? well it seems these days there is this thing called the internet which lets you go on websites such as bbc radio 1. and what about if im not from the uk?? well my friend, it will work for you too!! i'll make this easy for you guys, here's the link to their radio show in new djs we trust...

Listen:
andy george & jaymo - in new djs we trust (with armand van helden)

after the show has been aired, it remains online for a week which means that it will only be up till this thursday. i thought i'd let you all know since they showcase the best new tracks about along with some huuge interviews. just remember, it's the first friday of every month :)

Hostage!

I can't get over how cold it was when i got back to Sheffield yesterday to a place that which has been raped by rain it seems. Last week I took time off from University to fly back home and see my friends! Great times were had, however good times also includes a bit of drama! I busted up my ipod once again, that's twice in a month now. I don't think "cause your Irish and my mother in law is Irish also, I shall sort you out" is going to happen this time either from the man in the Apple store.

To cheer me up I went round myspace, looking for any new material from artists and that 'new sound' everyone is trying to find. Maybe not a new artist or sound but what i did find out for myself is that Hostage has come out with a November Mix. When i found this it went straight onto the phone and done me very well for the journey from Ireland back to England. Throughout the journey nothing could distract my concentration on listening to each track.

Alan the Hostage comes at us with a new angle on his month mixes. This time he has went against his own rules and has decided to make a mix which excludes his on productions and tracks. Before December kicks in and we hit another new year in music, Hostage takes the wobbles and juddering tracks of the 2008 year to us in this in 1 hour 7 minutes and 11 seconds .

if you say there ain't no way that I could know

sometimes don't you often find yourself feeling exclusively lazy and lethargic on a sunday?? like all you seem to want to do is lay in bed till the afternoon watching crappy tv? well today i find myself in such a paradigm. perhaps not so much the rubbish tv (i really couldnt bring myself to watch a hollyoaks omnibus hehe)...but more like staying comfy in my covers listening to some down-beat and beautiful music. you know, as much as i love the scarily destructive basslines, it's not really going to help set the mood of tranquility. in fact, it would smash and obliterate such melancholy. actually, i suspect melancholy is the wrong word to be used. im, usually, always in a good mood and very rarely let that slip. so how do you find a track that's down-beat yet not flirting with the hands of solemnity i hear you cry? really, it's not that arduous. i mean, you just avoid the sombre chords and search for some sincere vocals. i'll start you all off. the first track im going to post is by kenneth bager who is somewhat a danish legend. im assuming that you know how much the scandinavians dominate this type of music i.e. the likes of lindstrom & prins thomas (actually all three have worked together with the glimmers for a new track- see waves at night to find out more) so it should be no surprise that kenneth is a pioneer in this trade. fragment seven (les fleurs) really is a beautiful track aided even more by the airy vocals from julee cruise- who you may know famously from the theme song for twin peaks. despite a lazy sunday afternoon, this inevitably deserves full volume. indeed. better news still, jesse rose worked on the remix and he can do just no wrong. ive loved his productions for what seems like forever and it's rewarding to hear his classic sound again after working with the action man that is hervé. check out them panpipes!

the second insight of what i've been listening to today, is a sweet cover of the lovely lykke li. oh how i loved the original when it came out earlier this year and my oh my that fred falke vocal mix! imagine my delight when i heard friendly fires had a go at their own version. again, it's just perfect and i can 't get enough of it. repeat repeat! the aeroplane mix of paris rekindled my adoration for friendly fires (and au revoir simone) after having listened to their album numerous of times over the summer. i suspect, come the end of the year, both albums by lykke li and friendly fires will feature in my top 20 for 2008. that's going to be one hard list to conjure up, i best start thinking about it now really. your suggestions are very much welcome! :)

DL:

and if you say i'm not ok
then that's the goal
if you say there ain't no way that i could know
if you say i aim too high from down below
well, say it know 'cause when i'm gone...
you'll be callin' but i won't be at the phone

it's friiiiiiday! the weekend is nearly here and i really cant wait. ive been flooded with so much work, it's beyond belief. in fact im pretty much not looking forward to the twenty minute presentation i have to do next week in front of three judges. but you know, after all this endeavour, i thought i'd treat myself with a trip to the cinemas with my flatmates yesterday. it actually seemed like a good idea....until we decided to watch saw v. don't get me wrong, i was a massive fan of the first one and to a certain extent, the sequel too. although since the latter, they've rapidly fallen downhill. i mean, is it really necessary to have a fifth? why is it possible to ruin and kill something that started so good? and why oh why is there going to be a sixth?? look at se7en. a classic that escaped the grasp of whoring. i did feel robbed though and without spoiling anything, the ending is about as good as soggy cornflakes. sooo today im just gonna be lazy and do no work at all with the anticipation of a going out tonight. well really i should be doing some competitor analysis...but thats far too mundane for a friday afternoon. instead, i find myself checking my emails. no ebay, im not interested in your offers grrrrr. i'd, by far, rather turn my attention to an email from the lovely anna over at your music promotions. she always sends niceties and this time it's a trevor loveys remix of the machines' beat bang. im sure youve seen many a time me sing praise for the ever impressing mr i can do no wrong so i'll try not to repeat myself. my fetish for this fidgety/jackin sound is always increasing and well i just cant get enough of it. the release features remixes by hervé (using the moniker action man) and the new machine that is mujava (remember the funky fella?) so surely that's whet your appetite? well how about this? hervé says there will be a second machines dont care album next year! to me, that's just teasing. it's like giving a crocodile a slither of bacon waaay before it's meal time. hmm yea, anyway did you know if you sign up to the machines don't care mailing list, they'll send you the full quality version? indeed. im just gonna be the teaser this time and make you sign up to get that version...but only so you can show your support :)

Justice for daTsu
pic:last.fm

DaTsu you all just muttered under your breath? So did i when i went to see who done this remix and with a bit more research i found daTsu had a few more cracking remixes.

DL:
Justice - Genesis (daTsu Remix) [Alt] (Highly Recommended)

The electro duo daTsu was founded in February 2008, by two childhood friends, not afraid to work their Classical Jazz, Rock & Electro knowledge on songs from the likes of Justice, We Are Terrorists, Simian, RATM and Metronomy. The two french men are childhood friends who have always loved their music, they now come together to form daTsu: "Our Baby"

DL:
daTsu - Dog Remix (daTsu vs SebastiAn) [Alt]

DaTsu's members improved their potential through various projects since their young age. Today, this young binomial reaches for the dance floors with their dynamic and elaborated electronic music.

Both genuine musicians, have a range of musical influences from the likes of ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles or Bach, Mozart, Stravinsky to Prodigy, Justice, Mirwais, Crookers, The Neptunes, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk... (this list really does go on)

When i mention them to being genuine musicians they don't play a set through the help of CDJ's and ableton on their laptop! They perform their tracks live (guitar and keyboard). Differentiating them from other classic DJs that we are use to seeing, giving them a set that is a pure moment of life.

http://www.myspace.com/datsumusic

Bonus:

As much as we all love the heavy bassline mashing our brain, we all have that band or singer/ songwriter that we turn to, giving us a break the dance world.

I find myself listening to General Fiasco! A 3 piece indie rock band from N. Ireland, currently at week number 8 on tour of the UK finding out what it's like to live out of a suitcase between playing gigs and around the country and t trying to find a free wireless point so they can reply to their myspace fan's telling hem how great they were last night!

Currently getting airplay on Radio 1, the band from Derry are set for stardom and headlining stages at this summers festivals. In the next few week General Fiasco are getting geared up for the release of their first single, Rebel Get By on Another Music = Another Kitchen record label and their first headline tour! check them out:

drrrums of death
photo: drumsofdeath

perhaps youre sat there thinking "pabs! what are you doing, halloween was last friday you silly billy??" and i'd reply, no no no this is drums of death wearing his usual attire. though i'll let you off since this fella is a scary character. so much so that my friend just looked with discontent at the sight of such abnormality. she asks is this guy a distant cousin of the joker? well good question dear, i dunno, is he going to ask me how he got those scars?? am i so serious?? who knows, but now i have a pretty good idea for a costume next halloween! indeed, even the club pony dildo cam (now you may be thinking whaaaa?? but im sure if you go on a certain youtube and type in "article magazine" all would soon become clear) where was i?? oh yea not even the club pony dildo cam would be able to scare as many people as a drums of death costume. in fact i think i should give this guy a rest...i bet he's kind and gentle as anything. appearances can be deceiving and the girl whose face popped out of a fonejacker mask will know what im talking about! soo mr drums of death, what do you have in store for us? a what? you fucked up an escort tune?? well that doesnt sound pleasant! though indeed it is. again the dude from london town got me again. it actually commences as a funky beast, like the enigmatic juice the gummy bears used to drink. soon after, vocals that sound like they've been taken from the realms of soul appear provoking the question...is it a pilooski dirty edit underneath all that white makeup? well no not really, just an emphatic new track from drums of death. with two minutes left to go, it begins to mutate...a sense of trepidation and boom, lightning has struck giving birth to an electronic monster. available to buy on the ever fruit bearing beatport on civil music. i did, so should you :)

after just logging in, i realised we past a hundred posts a while back...oops! how did we miss that?! i should have really planned a landmark special. nevermind! soo yea, last friday was a bit crazzzy! for one, it was wierd being dressed as a geek...but i think i carried it well haha and two there were some mishaps between a couple of my friends. though nothing to worry about, fake blood was pretty special. just looking through the many videos i took, his kills remix went down a treat, and i thought the place would explode when mars came on. with andy, louis la roche and the guy from klaxons (whose name i cant for the life of me remember) all created a huuuge melting pot for a pretty special night. next time round im gonna be bringing a load of moda virgins down to have their cherries popped! hell yea. soo for today, i have something that's been getting some acclaim from quite a few big names and well i could go on for ages about how good this release is but really...wouldnt you rather see the thoughts of producers/djs? mr kissy sell out, what do you think? "that's one nasty track boys! full support!! and crookers??? "really like that klappyn track, many thanks" hang on, what about a funkism favourite mowgli, what did he say?? "another great release for the zodiac..klappyn is my favourite, reeeeaaalllly sick!" hmmmm yea i thought you'd say that fella. there you have it, a thumbs up. head over to beatport if you wanna buy the release :)
