Listen up you beautiful funkers, it's competition o' clock. Together with Topman CTRL we're looking to give away this free tshirt designed by our absolute man crush, Diplo. This month it's the turn of Wes Gully to face the CTRL project and control the reigns of their super cool Myspace blog- yes yes mega hyped- because this means two things. First of all next Tuesday the madhatter himself will be online to answer your questions and then on the 16th he's chosen the likes of Micachu & The Shapes, Benga, Primary 1 and Mumdance to play with him for the show at Fabric, LDN. Ooooh la la huh? Well before we get down to the nitty gritty here's a track for the new mixtape that Mad Decent are doing.
Hi Everyone! You've probably heard of Silas & Jonas aka Kenton Slash Demon, two cool guys from Denmark signed on Tartelet Records (which is also a dope label). Their track 'Khattabi' was playlisted on Brodinski's Bugged Out (btw the EP is available on Beatport). Their new "Sun" is a little bomb, going from Groovy- Disco notes to minimalistic touches. Everything is on Beatport guys.Labels: Kenton Slash Demon
It's always torture trying to uncover a mystery- particularly if the answer just lies around the corner. In fact we're due a good challenge to test our detective capabilities after the Gucci Vump saga turned out to be the world's worst kept secret. Ohh Brodi you're a sneaky one. Well to be quite frank, I'm far too impatient to be waiting around for answers. Fuck January 2010, why wait over a month when one of you cruel buggers can let slip to me now. Ahem. So who are Monarchy people? We know they're a duo right? Could one of them be the ever so slick Starsmith? Or possibly one of the Late of the Pier boys (Samuel Dust?) working on one of those said individual projects? What a tease eh?
The young duo Dem Slackers have just finished off their latest remix. We blogged about them back in May when they sent us their Mightyfools remix of Amsterdam, shit got big then. No long after that their Joker EP got released on Wearhouse Music with some even bigger remixes. Drawing resemblances to the likes of Congorock, Raffertie and A1 Bassline you would expect wobbles from the next track.
Has anyone seen the previews for Yeasayer's "Ambling Alp" video yet? Let me explain. First of all- everybody is naked. Yes you read right, they're all starkers. Not even a leaf. Okay so after the initial shock of the nudity we're greeted by some LSD driven illusions of these people running about on a desert. Absolutely no idea where but it looks like it's killing their feet. They're still naked at this point, so it's not pretty when they're busy power-walking through the dust. Hmm. But it ends with everybody sleeping on silver sheets. Are they all oiled up for a massive orgy? It looks quite likely. Although, aside from all this enigma, the song is actually pretty damn good. Perhaps not quite as thrilling as the blatant cult sexathon on show, but twinned with the Memory Tapes remix, I think the single has enough hoohaa to kick that eerie mojo of yours into action. Yikes.
This is for everybody awake at half past seven on a Sunday morning who fit under the following adjectives: tired, hungry, achey and grumpy. Sat there depleted with a cup of coffee barely able to listen to the news. Ask yourself why you're in such a state? Is it... because of work? You were disturbed? You're just one of those crazy people who get up at ohh good lord the birds aren't even awake yet o' clock. If that's the case then you suck. Big time. If it's because you've had one hell of a Saturday night then high fives all round tits magees- this In Flagranti remix was made for you. It's a cheeky little pick me up to keep you going until you hit the sack. Works better than caffeine. Scientifically proven.
Looks likes Pabs wants a battle? Well let start off with that song being well old now, but Funkism isn't always about new music it also about what has been missed. But to fight this battle I'm going to open up my Jon Curtis tool box. His debut production is Driven, has a hard go chasing sound throughout. The more it goes on the stronger it gets as if it has found confidence.
Can I really do two post in the same week on the same artist? Of course I can when there is other party involved, this time I have Diplo as an excuse. The Devils Eye remix is running alongside Bacardi B - Live Events that happen around the world each year. We have the likes of A-Trak, MSTRKRFT and Para One involved in this years events in over 25 different countries, serious biz. Diplo is also involved in the B- Live proceedings with Major Lazer, working along side Drop The Lime, it was only a matter of time before Diplo asked if he could put his own gritty shaker on the track. Devil's Eyes is the latest single.Thing is though, this is a live mix and really shows the brilliance of Diplo. You are able grab the Major Lazer sounds within the remix which are pasted between the Luca Venezia vocals. Head over to our blog bros Stoney Roads for some more remixes of the track. To show their support and joy for the release, xlr8.com are running a contest to get Drop the Lime to to in your hood, check it.
